Party Hat Reason 6

anyone had a beta play yet?

thoughts?

Posted by Zak McKracken on Aug-16-2011 19:25:

no but it looks good, luckily i skipped v5, and can get 6 for the same price. And Record is dead thankfully (included now), so we are now back on a program thats as good as Reason 3 plus a few more features, awesome

Posted by Akira_Kayosa on Aug-16-2011 19:28:

yeah im glad thats gone tbh, what was the point other than

sucked, be nice to get a play on it soon, should be good

although i tend to only use reason now as a quick think pad

and to rewire into cubase (main projects etc)

or if im being lazy - the whole track in reason haha :0)

they always hold back far to much stuff, they could unleash more each update im sure!!

waiting for 7

also boo on propellerheads for adding dongle bullsht. i simply do not understand it, it only punishes the paying customers, as, it will be cracked no doubt.

That's sooooo lame. Not that i like reason in the first place but dongles just have no place in this day and age, at least as far as cheap software goes.

@palm, don't do it! Stick with your logic brothers!

+1 don't fall to the dark side

They're STARTING to use dongles now? Lol.

Posted by aquila on Aug-17-2011 08:42:

haven't they been using dongles since v4?

Posted by Zak McKracken on Aug-17-2011 17:51:

yeah dongle came with V4 and Record, part of the reasons i lost fate in propheadz. If the dongle stays im not upgrading: simple. I cant tolerate such behavior. They better start acting right or theyll be broke, Record/Reason thing was a BAD move and i bet they lost alot of customers at that time. So maybe ill leave it this time too, upgrade directly from 4 to 7 (dongle must go!). BTW you can open the app without the dongle too by logging on to the website. But that sux too imo. Oh and relax people im not giving up on Logic, I just love to jam around in Reason from time to time, for ideas. The sound is much better on Logic almost instantly, I just dont understand how its possible for Reason to be so muddy.

Posted by magnosis on Aug-21-2011 13:16:

Idk why everyone here is hating on Reason. The only thing truly missing is VST/plugin support.

I use Ableton Live reWired with Reason just to record my vst automations. But as far as sequencing goes, Reason is by far the best and easiest program out there.

So idc I'm goin to get Reason 6 and 7 and 8 and 9 and 10. Hopefully soooooooon they'll have VST support and it will then become the most powerful music production software on the market!!!!

d-_-b yupp

Posted by DJRYAN on Aug-21-2011 16:50:

I don't think the problem w/ Reason is lack of VST support. I like Reason just fine w/out it. But, I do wish that I could get more voices out of the synths. There are VST's out there which can produce over 600 voices. I still to this day wonder how many I get out of a typical Thor w/ three Multi-Oscilators with them slightly detuned- I bet 9 maybe emulating a few more? Probably. That's the only REASON why I think I might want VST support in Reason. But, for now, I'm okay w/ out it.

Posted by Zak McKracken on Aug-22-2011 16:41:

are you stupid? if u need more than 16 voices just add another instance. LOL man just lol. please stop talking about things you dont know shit about. VST support in Reason is stupid as it has all the instruments youll ever need included!

Posted by DJRYAN on Aug-22-2011 18:48:

How could you say 16 voices is enough? I've heard out of the box presets that quadrouple 10 instances of whatever synth you want to put out in Reason. And when you can get a synth that has over 600 voices. Are you kiddin? That's a powerful synth. Obviously, being able to have those many voices will intensify whatever sound your trying to create. So part of me thinks its a lot easier to just open up a VST that gives you that kinda of power instead of creating 15 instances of Thor just to emulate a sound that can be made in one instance of Absynth. And then, in addition to that, I have several Reason Soundsets and not even the most powerful of sounds in that soundset is equivalent to an external VST.

Posted by DeZmA on Aug-22-2011 19:10:

Seems like they got rid of the annoying bug where the first note of a pad got cut when looping in rewire mode.

I'm upgrading since I don't need 1000 voices in one synth like the fella above. My poor hearing says thor has more than enough using multiosc. New filter and echo look very cool.

Posted by DJRYAN on Aug-22-2011 23:45:

don't get me wrong.. the Thor synth still sound full. And you can also add other instances to make it even more full. But, nothing compares to a really good VST imo.

ya there is something called skill, it compares very well to a good VST. stop typing.

hahaha.

RYAN: seriously! Your computer doesnt even support 600 voices. get over yourself.

nice to see some good talking in a thread for once!!

im with alot of you guys on this one

reason is great rewired, as a fast sketch pad (no other wins)

it was a big fail with record and reason, didnt really suit for dancey productions etc, why would you use something like that when cubase or logic even fruity offers a better complete package in one?

so yeah im on 5, and will get 6 as ever as im pretty die hard, but its merely a tool for the bigger picture these days, as cubase is my main program, everything always starts in reason though

it will be nice to get all the good bits from record in reason however, back under one roof so to speak

i cant ever really see vst support in reason without a massive re haul of the whole program...which i doubt will happen

id like to see better fx suites in there, more creative tools

Posted by Zak McKracken on Aug-24-2011 12:21:

is the dongle confirmed? its a dealbreaker to me.

offtopic: Is logic avaliable for download? I have the DVDs but I want replace the DVDROM with a HD, and Logic is the only reason i need a DVDROM now that both Reason and Ableton comes as downloads.

damn someone is getting owned here.

Posted by aquila on Sep-29-2011 22:08:

It's just been launched. I'm still split over whether I should buy it or not - I'm still pissed that propellerheads are being douchebags over the simple midi issue.

maybe I was talking about partials.. I dunno.. I'm re-watching this video now.. but I could've sworn this video said something about having over 600 voices which prompted me to doubt Reason's synth capabilities.. but.. I'm assuming w/ over 320 partials that's what I was talking about..

how many partials/voices does any given Reason synth have?

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Sep-30-2011 22:40:

i'm sure it has tons with all the nice aliasing and other non linear artifacting going on.

Partials is a meaningless concept when talking about synth quality. As far as voices, probably more than you need.
