I was away for the weekend, and it was long gone by this morning.

I totally would have picked one up. I loved WebOS when I used it.

RIP Palm.

fuck seriously

wish I knew about this

Tried @ Best Buy on Sat morning, they "only" had 4 units and there was a line long line up by 9:45am.

The Source started the sale on Friday @ 5pm, instantly sold out

Most retailers refused to sell it that price and shipped them bak to HP on friday morning.

Today, HP's phone lines and web sales all crashed & burned.

I wanted to pay my last respects to Palm and wanted one for collector's item. *Sealed and stored away*

It's pretty sad to see *Palm* WebOS killed off like that, I do have the up most respect for Palm's OSs and if it wasn't for the Treo days ... I wouldn't have the passion and knowledge of hacking, tearing apart and rebuilding the iPhone's iOS.

Coming Soon: TouchPad fire sale Part 2

If you were worried that you missed out on your opportunity to get an HP TouchPad at the ridiculous price of $99 for the 16GB model or $149 for 32GB, then you're in luck. According to a tweet sent out by an HP employee and an article on International Business Times, HP has a warehouse full of devices that are ready to be shipped out to retail outlets in preparation for part two of the fire sale that's been going on the past few days.

No word on the number of TouchPads or other webOS devices that they have in stock, but if you keep hitting the HP website this week, you'll likely find that the "Out of stock" message is replaced with a "Buy now" option. Keep in mind that some retailers, like BestBuy, will no longer be selling the TouchPad even if there is more inventory available, so you'll want to watch other online outlets for news on continued discounts on the tablet device.

So while HP won't be creating any new devices to push into the highly demanding market, the TouchPad looks like it will be staying at the top of everyone's minds and shopping lists for at least a few more days. Whether you're at HP webOS Headquarters in Sunnyvale (like in the photo above) or checking some other retail store in your area, get in line with the rest of us. You won't want to miss out on what looks to be the last opportunity to get an HP TouchPad.

http://mobilesyrup.com/2011/08/22/d...-it-appears-so/

There is already a group established with the sole purpose of porting Android to the TouchPad they call themselves TouchDroid. And, independently there is a $1500 bounty to bringing it over, too.

But it seems that a lucky guy got the device from Qualcomm shipped with Android 2.2 Froyo already installed, or at least Ubuntu running Android in an emulator, which begs the question, how long will it take to get a native port? See, the TouchPad runs a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, which powers many current Android devices. In fact, the 1.2Ghz dual-core processor inside the tablet is of the same family as the SoC in the HTC EVO 3D and Sensation, which we know power Gingerbread pretty darn well.

Its only a matter of time before someone collects that bounty, though there is a pretty cryptic video that claims a Gingerbread port is already finished, and will be unleashed on the world this Thursday, August 24th

One last batch of TouchPads on the way, HP says

HPs public relations manager Mark Budgell wrote a blog post Tuesday afternoon confirming a report from Reuters earlier in the day in which HP vice president Todd Bradley suggested the company would resurrect its TouchPad tablet. Despite announcing an end to manufacturing webOS hardware, we have decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand, Budgell wrote. We dont know exactly when these units will be available or how many well get, and we cant promise well have enough for everyone. We do know that it will be at least a few weeks before you can purchase. HP says it will manufacture the tablets during the fourth fiscal quarter of this year, which ends on October 31st. It is unclear if the new batch will be priced from $99, which had previously resulted in a quick fire sale of the tablet.

(Reason for their final run, lots of parts sitting in factors of suppliers & maybe a customer service thing)

Source? I heard they are done with it and may sell off the hardware business all together.

Yes Samsung is intrested in WebOS.

Samsung said to be considering webOS acquisition from HP

Following rumors that Samsung was considering a purchase of Hewlett-Packards PC business rumors that Samsung would later deny DigiTimes is having another go at this potential unholy union. This time around, however, the site claims Samsung is eying HPs webOS platform instead of its PC business. DigiTimes on Monday reported that Samsung has hired HPs ex-vice president of PSG marketing Raymond Wah to head up Samsungs PC business. The report goes on to claim that Samsung is also considering purchasing webOS to compete head on against Apple and Google, according to sources from notebook players. The South Korea-based electronics giant is clearly having issues with Android right now. Despite Googles OS having helped Samsung climb to the No. 2 spot among global smartphone vendors, it also brought with it a flurry of patent-related lawsuits from Apple and other companies. Google just announced its intention to acquire Motorola for $12.5 billion, however, and this purchase is intended in part to help the company defend itself and Android partners against patent complaints from Apple, Microsoft and other combatants in the patent wars. Beyond that, Samsung also has its own in-house smartphone platform, bada, which is seeing success in the Asian market. Samsung declined to comment.

Samsung will never buy webOS, CEO says

During the IFA trade show in Berlin on Friday, Samsung Electronics CEO Choi Gee Sung addressed rumors and speculation that Samsung was considering purchasing webOS from HP. Choi said Samsung would never make the purchase, according to Bloomberg. Its not right that acquiring an operating system is becoming a fashion, he said. Samsung Mobile already has its own mobile operating system called bada and just released version 2.0. It also sells smartphones running Android and Microsofts Windows Phone platform. HP, which recently announced that it is ostensibly killing off the mobile operating system, has been working with other technology firms to license webOS. While Samsung may not buy webOS outright, the Korean-based company has held talks to license webOS for new smartphones, Bloomberg said, but it is still unclear how those discussions turned out. Considering the success Samsung is currently enjoying with Android and bada, however, were not sure HP will be able to convince Samsung that there is any real value in adopting an OS that it couldnt even sell to users itself.

cool!

Samsung won't touch WebOS with a 100-foot pole.

WebOS is dead. Bye, bye.

HP management should be canned for buying WebOS and launching a product only to discontinue it 3 months later. Terrible management, the stock has been hammered.

HP to start shipping new TouchPads in 6-8 weeks

The HP TouchPad somehow had a spark of revitalization over the past month, perhaps its the price or those pining for one really want a piece of history. The webOS platform is smooth, intuitive and some have gone to the extent of completely removing it from the tablet and replacing it with Googles Android OS.

Just last week HP wrote on their blog that they decided to produce one last run of TouchPads to meet unfulfilled demand, but gave no time frame. It was assumed that itll be sometime before the end of the year as thats when they are discontinuing the development of webOS devices. However, today an email to HPs Small and Medium Business customers says the resurrected TouchPad will be here within 6-8 weeks, at the hugely discounted price.

It has taken us longer than anticipated to work through the high volume of orders that were received. We apologize for any uncertainty this caused, but we are now in a position to understand our ability to fulfill your order.

Your order will be fulfilled at the discounted price. However, we do not have enough stock to satisfy your order at this time. It will take 6-8 weeks to build enough HP TouchPads to meet our current commitments, during which time your order will then ship from this stock with free ground shipping.

Is 6-8 weeks worth the wait? eBay is just a click away
