Ultra week 2012(wmc)

Slacked hard mostly due to an uncertainty in my spring break and just booked a room last friday, but it turned out to be just in time, as the main property during the trip has risen $60+/night since! Considered a house with a group of friends, but they havent lined anything up yet. Alaska airlines have red eye flights from lax.
Those attending where are you staying? Going with Nero's recommendation of doing a week in, but due to work wont be arriving until thursday. looking at thur-thur.
First 5 nights at the Crest hotel and suites, last 2 nights at the Epic Miami, those that have stayed at either property, your two cents?

well i will do some regular toursity stuff mon-thur. i will be taking thur and friday off from work. i think 3 is the most in a row i can take before i need a doctors note.
i'll already be in miami so may as well get stuff in tues&wed after a monday of recovery.

i personally hated the weekend part of WMC (Fri/Sat). The best part Tues - Thur.

ya thats what neros doing, i cant do that though. i can get juicy and ultra tickets ahead of time and then see what other parties show up. i heard people made enough for their first borns college fund via SHM tickets last year, might grab some of those.

i know i'll have fun if i kick it with lebron, he'll have plenty of time since the season will be cancelled.

What are the dates for 2012 WMC and Ultra week?

What was the overall consensus on which was the better this year?

Ultra/MMW aka the only dates that matter are march 23-25.

WMC was sparsely attended and mainly deep house.

WMC hasn't announced yet.... i'm hearing its back to the same dates. but its irrelevant... plan to go when Ultra/MMW and you are fine.

did everyone give up on miami? or you guys just waiting until prices for lodging,travel, and (eventually) events go up?

honestly its too early... a lot of the hotels haven't really priced their rooms to accurately reflect their prices being its over 6 months away...same with flights. i've looked and prices at the hotels i usually stay at at priced way higher than they will be bookable for later on.

and last thing i'd want to do is book a non-refundable airfare almost 7 months ahead of time to maybe save a few $.

of course if you see a great deal no reason not to jump on it especially if the hotel is refundable... but having been to 9 WMCs, there is no rush to book anything before the end of the year. prices really don't start changing until February i'd say...

WMC was still packed because of spring break. All the Taxi drivers told me Ultra week was a little more packed.

WMC wasn't as dead as it could have been because of the spring break crowd.

damn,if room rates will only go up, thats crazy. if anything i thought the hotels had low prices going(and possibly were even lower earlier in summer) i of course will keep an eye as i can always cancel without penalty. At least we've got a hold on something in case prices do not decrease. figured that would be something all "maybe attending" would do. our cancel without penalty deadline is the standard 2 days prior to arrival.

and as for the hotels likely being bookable at a lower price later, thats why i went with orbitz...they do the price assurance. auto-refund in case i go a few days without checking rates and miss a sale.

well Miami is always busy in March! but the people i know personally that went to the 'real' WMC said the specific WMC parties were fairly quiet compared to past years (with a few exceptions).

Someone in Miami who is in the industry said recently he believes WMC and Ultra will be the same week next year. No idea why WMC hasn't announced anything yet though... why wait if you know the dates?

BP - what's going on is that its so early that many of the hotels have not settled on their final hotel prices for March yet... so they load prices like $499 a night in the computer just to have something there... but in a few months you'll start seeing lower prices.

Again - no harm in booking something refundable now at a rate you like at a hotel you like.

I'm not going to start seriously looking until probably Oct/Nov and the earliest i've ever locked something down is around NYE.
