Review: Gabriel & Dresden at Guvernment
I won tickets to the event and rolled solo and sober, arriving a couple minutes before 1 am, just in time to see Gabriel & Dresden start their set. Hearing "Beautiful Things" to start was excellent. I thought they played a nice mixture of tunes, playing mostly banging tracks with big basslines and sprinkling in some more melodic and uplifting stuff every so often. The remix of R.E.M.'s "Losing My Religion" was amazing. I was very happy to hear Andain's "Promises" (Gabriel & Dresden remix), but I do prefer Myon & Shane 54's Summer of Love Mix, which they did not play. Arty's "Around the World" had the place going insane! If it were up to me, Gabriel & Dresden would have played a bit more melodic, but I thought they did a good job overall, nonetheless.
The Guv was more crowded than I anticipated, but I carved out a space in the back where I danced feverishly and incessantly for three straight hours, save two separate trips to the bar to get multiple cups of water. My clothes were drenched, so the DJs were certainly enabling me to move about maniacally. By 4 am, I was completely exhausted and I left with G&D still on the decks.
Very enjoyable night.

this was there first time playing together in that room in a few years. And these few tracks that they supposedly play at every gig have some significance in the musical history of that room. If i had gone last night and NOT heard the same old tracks that made them who they are..i would have been pissed.

how dare u win a contest fair and square, go alone, not leave the extra ticket in your pocket, choose not to be price gouged by water, and have a great time and admit it.

I guess trance is like the canned goods of the music world. If you want something fresh you need to look elsewhere.

Yes, draw me up some schematic. In it, include where it is that you profit financially or otherwise from ragging on a guy for selling a ticket he WON, that otherwise would have sat in his pocket. Make sure you include how it effects you as a TA member, and don't forget to highlight the part where it shows you OVERLY towing the guvernment line.
Shaya, I love ya guy, but c'mon the guy sold a ticket. Charlie is out $20 bucks. Big deal, im sure he didnt notice, why do you?

big deal though, cut the guy some slack, its not like hes maliciously entering contests, winning, then profiting.

If anything, the fact that I came out with more money will improve my opinion of partying at Guv, which will likely translate into future visits. I'm surprised I even took the time to justify my decision. |
