How do you use a gliding saw synth with along with a bass?

Do you sidechain the saw synth because it doesn't sound right if it plays at the same time as the bass. Anyone run into this? I must be doing something wrong.

No..

you adjust your sub bass with the same glide parameters as your mid bass?

and I hear no gliding in your video

Surely that is not all bass...

If I could just get this technique down it would help me out a lot.

Show me an example.

I will not rest until I figure out how to do this! Driving me mad

Another example.

Stop posting that shitty eurodance here.

There's a free plug-in called magical8bit that's used for chiptunes, but it has a 25% pulse waveform that I love using for basses similar to these

http://tindeck.com/listen/eskw -- old example and not stylistically similar, but you get the idea

to get closer to the euro stuff you posted I think you'd have to layer another saw bass an octave higher just to give it some character, but any low sidechained pulse bass will give you a similar result. technically these basslines are easy as hell to make, it's just hard figure out how to make them sit well in a mix as loud as your examples.

Would someone be nice enough to shoot me an FLP of this technique? Using say Nexus?

I must be doing something wrong. Everytime I try the two octave bass thing it makes the pitchbass sound like shit.

do me a favor and reread what you just posted, because to me, it sounded like you were asking us to do the work for you, using a format that you could easily use/reference

I think it'd be better for everyone if you went ahead and posted your attempts instead, so we can figure out what you're doing wrong.

never heard this Dj Splash tunes and i used to listen to him a lot... are they new?

I don't think he sidechains the saw, sidechain of a 1/16 note at 145bpm is almost unoticeable what i'd do to get both things working:

-Massive compression
-Use higher octaves for the saw.
-Limiter/Filter for the bass a.k.a make more room for the core part of the saw sound.

For the bass i'd simply get the hardcore expansion of nexus if you don't want to struggle yourself very much there are tons of this basses.

I have the hardcore expansion and don't hear any basses similar lol. Maybe kinda "hoover hard" but that's it. If there's one I can just turn one of the octaves off that'd be awesome.

Here the two octave bass is merely a plain saw with a bit of glide. Maybe some frequencies clashing idk.

If you're trying to emulate that first example, the bass is sidechained to the kick, it doesn't just play on every 8th note.

Do you have any examples of, say, full songs where the bass sits in a completed mix? If you're just opening FL and making a kick and bass on its own, and expecting to get anything that sounds similar to the basses in the original links, you're setting yourself up for failure.

Like I said, the basic method is a sidechained pulse or saw wave, octaved if necessary. It really doesn't get much easier than that technically, the rest is up to you to figure out how to use it in the context of a full mix. Just keep practicing.

This advice is not very helpful.

The funny thing about it is that it's far and away more helpful than the advice you should be getting.

I took time out of my god damned day to help you, excuse me for not creating a fucking .flp file using the synths you use so you can reference and copy someone else's work. I would absolutely stunned to learn you spent more than 15 minutes on that bass/kick so forgive me for not writing a god damned essay on everything you're doing wrong.

I don't know if you realize this, but this website doesn't exist for you. Talented producers don't gather here just so they can hold your hand and let you pretend you have a fucking clue what you're doing. we haven't dedicated our lives to this craft just so we can help lazy bastards like you sidestep the hard work we've done to get where we are.

not very helpful.. seriously, you're lucky I even responded after that ridiculous public display of laziness. learn how to make music like the rest of us did and practice, spend more than an hour on a bassline before giving up, instead of making people feel bad for doing anything less than writing your songs for you.

Blah Blah Blah...

I don't know if you realize this, but I don't need some tool telling me how to make music.

Posted by Kysora on Sep-12-2011 03:11:

hay guys how do i make this bass

???

no seriously guys, come on.

guys

SERIOUSLY. I will not rest until I figure out how to do this!

ugh. this is harder than I thought, can someone else do it for me? i use fl and nexus so if you could.. uh, use fl and nexus, and then maybe upload the file so I can use your work... that'd be swell

okay guys, i'll try on my own. i put this kick and bass together in 8 minutes, and followed none of the advice you guys gave me, but it still doesnt sound right. if you guys could tell me exactly what I'm doing wrong, how to fix it, and then go ahead and do it for me, well golly that'd be super

wait i have to make it sit in a full mix? like, with more than the kick and bass? and I have to practice before I can do it well?

lmao you tool, fuck off, I know what I'm doing

You could try using a hammer to give your computer a few whacks until you hear fragments of motherboard bouncing around like shrapnel in a tank.
