Moombahton

So I've been researching some Moombahton lately and I have to admit, I'm intrigued. House records slowed down to the point of them sounding like reggaeton, samples, scratching, etc, etc, etc. The whole turntablism aspect kinda elevates it to art form status to me. I'm looking for Moombahton parties in NY but haven't found any yet. There are a couple in DC I def want to check out, like the one at U Hall, would prob be more appropriate to check the whole thing down there since it started in the DC area.

Has anybody checked out a Moombahton party yet? Thoughts?

A couple warehouse parties I've played at for the Digital Distortion guys have had some moombahton DJs for a while, can't say I've checked out their entire set though, going to have to!

Right now, I think that music is touching on some very predictable ground. It's where it goes from this point forward that's maybe kind of exciting (think slow progressive trance, with live drum elements)

That's basically how moombahton was started, dutch house slowed down to the point of it sounding like something completely different. It has elements of go-go, dancehall, added drums, lots of editing and have even seen some insane scratching thrown in.

^^ Seriously. That shit is awful. I own plenty of reggaeton and dancehall records from when I was a kid. I stopped listening to reggaeton since everything became the same garbage and became more like auto tune commercial rap. This moombahton doesn't sound like anything innovative to me. If anything, sounds like afrojack mixed with reggaeton ughh.

can't say, i'd go to a party but i could see myself attending a day event with these guys on the decks!

Well, let me elaborate.

We are opening a booking/artist management agency based out of DC. Considering it's a genre originated in the DC area, we are looking to add to our roster an up-and-comer that plays and produces moombahton. If you guys have any leads on someone worth checking out in DC, let me know (Ravi, I'm looking at you!)

I'm seeing the moombahton movement def growing. It was "invented" a YEAR AGO and is now being played all over the world, with a big scene centered in Los Angeles. I can see it being the next dubstep in a way. Dubstep brought the emo scene into electronic music, now moombahton is bringing the reggaeton scene into it. Say all you want, but Nada is onto something, good business for sure. Even Diplo is playing moombahton now.
