EDC vs Tomorrowland

I would like to challenge US promoters, but especially Insomniac. I feel that with the number of attendees, and the ticket prices changed, there could be better production value at events. What brings this to mind is this video:

There is no reason that EDC or other events couldn't have this same creativity. Each year there is something new and cool done, but nothing even close to Tomorrowland or other events in europe. Why?

This only does the event a little justice, but you get the point. A stage lined with flashing lights, vs.... I don't even now where to start with thte stages in Tomorrowland.

Re: EDC vs Tomorrowland

Agreed, but I don't think it'll ever happen at insomniac.

one could argue the onstage visuals at EDC blew away Tomorrowland.... to me some medieval-type of stage design was different but not necessarily better.

Posted by Sadface on Sep-07-2011 19:54:

Yeah man the mainstage at EDC was the most impressive lightshow i've ever seen a youtube of. They're not slacking at all, they just have a different philosophy on production style which I think is fine. I don't think you can call one "better" than the other because it's ultimately a matter of taste.

PS - that Dash Berlin video was shot on the 2nd biggest stage at EDC....

better to show one of the main stage videos from EDC IMO

This will never happen in America. My best advice is to start saving and go to Belgium.

this is an easy answer Tosh.

Look at the crowd that goes to festivals in Europe, its mainly adults ( 20 years and older) where at festivals in the US, until a year ago are uneducated all ages kids (now finally its 18+) but still fresh off the box kids with no experience in EDM or know the history of it or some of the Artists that made the scene, just looking for a quick fix and place to get fkd up at. EDCs production i think is really impressive for that.

Kids in america going to festivals would no doubt want to see more flashy blinking lights then custom built huts and decor..

thats just the way it is.

There is a reason, that reason is...people are fucking stupid.

Posted by EDM-head on Sep-07-2011 23:36:

Europe is def in a whole other ball game and we have a lot of catching up to do...Everything here in the USA is all about money ultimately...Nonetheless EDC is at least heading in the right direction

Posted by DaveT on Sep-07-2011 23:56:

Only there's getting to be too many EDCs. It should be a special event. It being all around the country makes it less special. Other countries? Sure. Same country - no.

It's all about the benjamins.

I was just too lucky to be able to experience Tomorrowland, from an artist perspective and a crowd perspective (I'm not the artist, but i was there with Apsara). I have to agree with what Bjorn said, I've gotten a chance to talk to so many people that were there in the crowd, everyone is just out to have a good time and the drug used arent visible at least to me. They all look like mature clubbers to me.

From an artist and organization perspective, It is different. Mad respect for Insomniac but ID&T is by far the best at what they do at the moment, they are one of the biggest and oldest crew around. I mean the shuttle service for artist pickups and drop off is just unreal, nonstop Porsche and Mercedez Benz going back to and from the venue. Unlimited drinks for all DJs and their guests, unlimited food too. VIP treatment for everyone backstage. Artist relations are off the charts!

From an organization perspective it is crazy the way ID&T does it, every artist and artist guests have wristbands that are scannable. Every wristbands have barcodes that will show the 'access' that that person wearing is entitled too. For example, i was there as a guest for an artist, my wristbands are off limits on the stage. Also they told me that in 2010 was the first time they use the scans to locate 'missing' artists... LOL, every area that the artist access will show on their computer where is the last remaining position of such artist, also everybody that has no business being backstage will also be caught and easily thrown out.

I had a great experience with ID&T Tomorrowland, and I have to say it is unfair to compare EDC and Tomorrowland, mainly because of the crowd that goes to the festivals as Bjorn said. But there are also many things that Insomniac can learn from ID&T, but Insomniac is getting there.

my wristband for tomorrowland, I did not go to EDC Vegas so I didn't know if they have or they have not use a system like this in 2011. my review was based as of 2010

that's pretty creative

I think thats what makes festivals like Tomorrowland that much more special. The first time I saw pics of the mainstage for Tomorrowland in 2009 I was literally mind blown.

Just that much more of an incentive to make it back out to Europe for a festival like that.

edc 07, last good edc. hernan's trance set was one of the best ever! def catered to the younger and older crowd. as far as massives in the US go, i personally think electric zoo is booking some great acts esp when compared to insomniac... went to the first one and it was great. had no issues. i didnt bother on reviews for the last two but im sure it got better. its the same crew who throws SSFD!

edit: line up > production

Posted by fantasyexctasy on Sep-08-2011 09:42:

I've had the privilege of going to Bal en Blanc in Montreal and it truly opened my eyes at how much better the Euro style shows are compared to the Insomniac ones. Maybe that's why I laugh at our festivals here, part of being jaded I guess lol

Very true Bjorn.

EDm has a much larger history there, and has a big future here.

We'll see.... I still think Events here could try harder.

Wow, I wants to go to Tomorrowland now :-(

EDC, I am disappoint.

ELECTRIC DAISY LAS VEGAS has allready surpassed 90% percent of the European festivals, 300 000 people through the gates. Crazy line up. It will only get bigger and become king. One hell of a party, i was there and will be there next year mother ******s

Posted by Salem on Sep-08-2011 16:24:

support North America if you live here for fuck sakes.

Posted by mar46017 on Sep-08-2011 20:15:

Its hard to compare a US Festival vs. a Festival in Europe. The crowd in Europe is there to party. Look at everyone going nutts in Europe, where as here its all about being seen.

Euro Crowd > US Crowd
