Which vinyl control hardware? Serato or..
Already own a set of technic 1210s and a mixer, would like to add a laptop and vinyl control audio system. It is for bedroom only and won't be used very frequently.
Is a used serato SL1 the best one for someone on a budget?
I can get Torq/Connectiv for cheaper, and that would be new. Would it do the job ok?
I heard final scratch is pretty bad.
Are there any others that I should consider?
Would my laptop require a 7200rpm hard drive with all of these?
Thanks
Serato SL1 is a pretty solid platform. You can usually find them affordable these days. New or used.
Torq is pretty good. I have both the older version and the new Torq 2.0. The new version is solid and I haven't found any issues with it. At least not the issues of the older version. On the plus side, you can use the older Connectiv interface with 2.0 Only issue with 2.0 is if you plan on using three or more decks. M-Audio doesn't have an interface for multiple decks yet. So you would have to purchase something like the NI Audio 10 Interface.
Stay away from Final Scratch. Never heard anything good about it. I don't even think there's support for it anymore.
Traktor makes really good software. Serato and Traktor are the two big boys of dj software. Traktor has Scratch Pro and Scratch Duo. Duo is the price friendly version which pretty much gives you most of the same control as Pro.
Are you planning on using turntables exclusively? You may also want to look into all in one mixers. Like the Traktor Kontrol S4 or S2 system. Which is software tied with an external controller and you can still add external devices to it. Serato also has some really cool controller's for their software too. Their software, if I remember correctly is called Itch which is really nice to use. Especially for beginners, hobbists, etc.
7200rpm is recommended, however I don't think it's necessary. I have a Lacie 1tb Rugged that I use with my Macbook Pro and it spins at 5400rpm's. I haven't noticed any issues with the speed. Only thing I would be concerned with is the processor speed and ram.
No problem. Hopefully this will help a little.
If you're looking into using your existing set up and you're buying the DVS new, Traktor Scratch Duo would be your cheapest bet at $349. The cheapest flavor of Serato comes in at $499 and that's for the SL2 which essentially is Traktor's Scratch Duo's direct competition.
Either way you can't go wrong with either one. Traktor is used a lot in the EDM world and Serato in the mainstream world. They both have their ups and downs and essentially it boils down to personal preference.

Traktor has better quality

Hey
I need advice, I want to buy some new hardware for dj, Ive been using for almost 8 years vinyls. I want to switch into digital but I need help from you guys with more knowledge. I am looking for something which will implement all below requirements:
- dvs with software - traktor scratch or serato sl2 thats easy
- controler with software - traktor s4 or numarks ns6 with itch?? second option cant use dvs right?
- standalone mixer
- mobile setup
closest to include all above is s4 but it cant work as standalone mixer, most tempting is ns6 but there is no dvs? but both are not really a mobile setup as they are big mixers, denon mc6000 is another otpion but still no dvs? but its more mobile.
Its difficult there are lots of option but probably non ideal foy my needs ?
What would you recommend to do?

S4 works only when you connect it to the laptop so I believe I cant use it woth normal vinyls when its unplugged from laptop right?
Budget is around the price for s4 as its expensive from gear I mentioned.
How does it work to actually going into the gigs with s4?? it must be a bit uncomfortable?
DVS is cool as an option but using only DVS I need audio interface so Thats why I would want to buy controller which allows dvs aswell.
Will ITCH allow DVS in the future? Is ITCH worth to consider over the Traktor? it looks kinda more simple so it should be more stable?

Are there any music stores near you? My suggestion would be to go and demo them. Most stores will have each one set up. It would give you a better idea of what you want.
What do you think about xone 4d? its standalone mixer, when upgrade it to traktor certified it is also dvs without extra interface and can be used by all software, its most expensive gear tho so is it worth the effort?

I've seen the Traktor Scratch Duo "Update" around for decent money.
What do I need to be able to use the update package? Since it mentions something about the original version
