Rock the Bells (Nas, Lauryn Hill) Tonight

Is anybody else going? I could not believe when I saw it this morning:

Nas will be performing "Illmatic"
Lauryn will be performing "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill"

These are two HUGE albums!

I got my tix. Where are the other hip-hop heads?

it was cancelled in Montreal due to extremely low ticket sales. I'd be interested to see how it does in TO.

it is always risky to plan a tour based on 10+ year old material..

Looking at the map of available seats, I think its gonna be busy.

The whole Rock the Bells Tour seems amazing. Kind of like a 'classics' tour. I wish I could have gone to some of the NYC shows. Hearing "Only Built for Cuban Lynx" or "Imfamous" or "Liquid Swords" would be unreal.

don't rely on the seat maps of ticket sales available to know how busy things are.

looking forward to hearing how many people showed.

the numbers for this tour have struggled everywhere.

I went to the 2010 show in NYC. The lineup then was a lot better imo then this year's, but I still might head out to see the show.

Last year:
Snoop Dogg with Warren G, The Dogg Pound, Lady of Rage and RBX
Wu Tang - ODB's son performing for ODB
A Tribe Called Quest - Busta Rhymes showed up and performed half their set with them
Lauryn Hill (worst performance of the night by far, she totally sucked)
KRS One with Supernatural
Rakim
Slick Rick

This year's lineup, even in NYC, is a bit weak compared to that :|. Still, It's been years since I've seen Nas so it might be worth heading down for.

I bought them online, and the least expensive ticket left is $50 (including fees).

most likely not going, but had I known a lot sooner, I might've bought tix in advance. 2 All time great albums in each respective genres. Illmatic being my all time favorite album & quite possible the best Hip Hop album ever (imo), cause it changed the game.

Really bummed I'm missing it

Molson Amphitheatre has the worst sound at a venue, that I have ever heard. It made enjoying the performances just impossible; it was like somebody left the echo effect on for the whole time!

Posted by FunkyCrew on Sep-09-2011 14:13:

why blame Molson? blame the sounds guys

I've been to it a fews times in the past - I found that the concert openers had really crappy sound, but once the main performer was set up, it was absolutely stunning sound, could hear every singly lyric, crisp clear

All reports by fans & reporters say that Lauren Hill shit the bed with her performance last night & that Nas completely rocked it. Glad to hear he did it up proper.

I wouldn't say that.

Nas was good, but its pretty boring just having a rapper up on stage, and his set was really short.

Lauryn took FOR EVER to come out, and then took a huge break in between, those are my biggest complaints about her set.

I read a review ahead of time, and the writer said she was playing her old material in a 'new style', so when I heard it last night, it wasn't completely out of left field.

She was singing really fast and with a lot of energy. She was very twitchy, but very passionate. You could see that she was genuinely trying. The bad behind her was great, and played to her speed.

I suspect she was on something rather energetic last night, due to her erratic movements. I was trying to get a video of it, but my phone camera wasn't good enough. She looked more like a conductor on stage than anything, waving her arms at key points and directing the band.

I cannot say that I enjoyed her set, but that was mostly because of the sound issues.

LOL!!!!

That review pretty much sums it up.

...she spent the entire performance flapping her arms constantly at the sound people at the side of the stage and at her band. It was beyond distracting and, after some time, outright uncomfortable to watch.

It was like watching James Brown on speed.
