curious, approx. how much money do you think a DJ like tiesto or PVD get for a 4 hour set?

I've always wondered how these DJs can go from performing at a grand ballroom like roseland/hammerstein... then then next thing you hear, they are at a lounge like provacateur, lavo, etc etc.

I hear numbers from $40k to $75k

does anyone actually know? or are they just rumors?

TIA

More than what I make in a month....probably a year too...

Posted by cl0wnz0r on Sep-11-2011 22:37:

a few years ago, tiesto charged 10k/hr. now, probably more unless he is playing a college campus.

The top 5 DJs make anywhere in a range of 40-100K for a gig, depending on country, venue, promoter, etc..

As much of a PVD fan as I am, he makes much less than Tiesto now a days and really shouldn't be in the same sentence as Tiesto.

Ecos statement is as close as you can guess because it really does depend on city, venue, promotor, and capacity and even expected ticket price but I know of quite a few shows where Tiesto got more than 100k

That's insane. I guess a lot of these guys really are in it for the money now.

Before taxes, Tiesto apparently makes $20 million/year

Most of those Top 5 and sometimes Top 10 guys can easily make 100-200K on New Years gigs or some of those 2-3 night shows. It's really incredible to imagine that kind of money and kind of makes you question the whole idea of showing up with a CD book and pressing some buttons for 2 hours vs. playing with a band (guitars, basses, drums, roadies, backup singers, band members, merchandise people, etc.). But that's another conversation for another day.

An average of 260k per show. Of course big festivals are actually in the millions for him.

I love it when people argue with me and try to tell me he doesnt make more than 40k a show.

Wowwww

I can't image how much Made had to pay him for ezoo

Posted by Dreyth on Sep-12-2011 14:11:

Hmmm let's say 30k tickets were sold for electric zoo at an average of $200 each (after all fees). Let's just say.

$90,000 x 200 = $6,000,000

That's 18mil (edit: fail, 6mil) in revenue right there. And I'm well aware of the fact that many tickets were sold for more than 200 a pop, and that far more were sold than just 30k tickets. I'm pretty sure Made coulda paid well up to like 300k for just tiesto, and similar numbers for armin and guetta. Makes sense to me considering how much I've low-balled these numbers.

DJ Eco,

Would a DJ command more money for a festival or a single gig? For instance A&B at ez vs them at nokia theater. Armin at EZ vs at Roseland. How about club gigs ATB at ezoo vs at pacha.

Wow... than that must really be worth it. Ferry 1h 30min long set at Ezoo ending at 11:00pm or 4hr long set at nokia theatre ending at 5am? SOOO much more worth doing festivals for these DJs.

I'm not an expert here but for the most part, I've heard the opposite. I think maybe the 4-5 main acts get the astronomical fee, like someone said earlier, because their names are pretty much plastered in huge letters as the major selling point (Armin, Guetta, Tiesto, etc.). For at least 50% of the crowd there, they were the selling point.

I think as you scale down, the DJs make considerably less, maybe even a lot less than they usually charge. It's good on your "resum", so to speak, to be booked at a Dance Valley, Electric Zoo, EDC, and in my case, ASOT 500.

For example, many of the smaller Anjunabeats guys were booked at EZoo in other tents aside from Above & Beyond. I wouldn't be surprised if we now see a little more of Jaytech, Super8 & Tab, Mat Zo, Arty, being booked at the Pachas and Webster Halls of New York. Maybe at one time, you had to build yourself up big enough to make it onto these festival lineups. But now, because of the prodding of the artists' agencies, and some good strategy, the midlevel guys are booked there and use it as a jumping block.

Also, notice the amount of DJs that played EZoo early and hopped to Toronto or DC or various USA destinations that night for another gig. It's a very nice $$$$ weekend when festivals like this go down.
