-- Maybe I don't get it

Question Maybe I don't get it

Ok... I have been listening to techno for almost 10 years now, mixing for 1 year and I consider very open mind concerning techno and music in general...

But there's something I really don't figure out... WHAT'S UP WITH THE VOCALS IN EVERY FREAKING TRANCE SONG COMING OUT?

Maybe I'm an old nostalgic totally outdated still getting the goose bumps over the 1997-98-99 yrs. But wasn't it the best time? With all those uplifting INSTRUMENTAL and MELODIC trance songs.

I don't mind putting a couple vocal songs in a set. I am not against it, just that everything coming out lately has a singer into it. Sometimes only a word repeated from time to time in a song can be enough. Now all those "Heaven/Love/KissMe/LookAtTheSunset" theme songs are driving me crazy...

I have this sudden feeling we are going back to early 90's dance songs...

Am I the only one thinking like this?

And Btw, if you have any instrumental killer uplifting trance song to suggest, feel free to tell me =)

Thanks in advance

in my opinion its getting more and more mainstream, hence the vocals because people can actually sing along. i mean i don't really mind it as long as the tune sounds good, but if they try to make the vocals everything i just feel like shooting myself

just another reason why sasha's airdrawndagger still owns me!

that's something I have been speaking a lot with a dj friend of mine. Vocals are owning trance song because of two reasons.

1. Techno is getting more and more commercialized on radio station.

2. Reason #2 comes directly from number and link to your idea, now ppl can sing and put a title on the song they listen too...

That could explain a lot of things... but still, I prefer my instrumental songs =)

Sure... What I meant by that is if you wanted to have a killer track back in the days (without vocal most of the time) you had to put your energies in the search of your very sound and melody. Making your track an excellent track was all about music and harmonics...

I just think that now, they over-consider the place of the singer in the song meaning, they will throw in a very flat boring bass line and put all the emphasis on the singer... Isn't it a downward spiral toward a boring, repetitive and *all sounding the same* kind of music?

To be fair, there arnt vocals in every trance tune coming out. and in most cases the vocals make the tune good. i like the vocals in Do you See the Light (Snap! vs Plaything) and Silence.
how ever, some vocal parts are utter wank and make the whole song shit. Lasgo springs to mind for some reason!!!

I guess so it can bring more people into trance, since almost all other popular genres have words in them. I actually live for trance vocals, but I also agree with the fact that the 97, 98 and 99 stuff was off the hook.

AVB004 CD 1 is a perfect example of excess trance vocals but it's a great cd. I love it. I've been listening to it almost nonstop for the last 2 weeks. Can't get enough of it. Maybe it's just me. Care to comment on this?

it is NOT techno, it is trance, techno is not trance, they are completly different!!!!

Vocals should be used sparsely imho, vocals can bring a track up up
up so high that you go nuts just hearing the first line but vocals
can ruin the experience too.

When listening to gigs I dont want to hear 12 vocaltracks and 1
without, I want to hear tunes that makes my brain process the sounds
for it self, without help from a girl singing about her unlucky
relationships in the US, I couldnt care less about that.

Mind not to play on words??? I do know the difference between both styles...

Maybe if you were not "X"'ing one of the top 3 DJ's in the world... you could understand

maybe you would judge wether or not he was a top DJ if you heard his mixing, very poor and crap. also his latest productions.

pop artists have the most fans, does that make them the best? i think not. thankyou.

If your invitation to comment is about the cd, I haven't listened to it so I can't. As for the rest of your opinion, I agree some vocal tracks hooked me up for a while and still. Just the ratio of instrumental vs vocal sounds unbalanced to me. Maybe a good blend of both would fit perfectly well.

The reason you underline in your first sentence sounds a major point in my opinion. Instrumental tracks were made to bring people in a special state of mind and put them in a "trance" and party. If vocal tracks were meant for the same reason, I guess it would be very different. But the fact it does exist to attract more people to a bigger market quite bugs me...

Thanks for sharing!
