Stereo Event Listings
Stereo is probably my favourite club in the world, but one thing that they need to improve upon is their communication of upcoming events. As someone coming from Toronto, it is extremely hard to plan a weekend given how late Stereo generally announces events. This has been happening ever since they removed their policy of not announcing the line-up. Example: nothing is announced for October, and it's only 2 weeks away.
Although the current slow announcements are better than that previous policy, it would be nice to be able to book train tickets/flights and a hotel before it gets needlessly expensive.
Is there any explanation behind this?
My friends and I would surely come to Montreal and Stereo more often if this was improved.
FUCKING AGREE !!
Been wanting to see Slam for years now, can't go since i've heard about it two weeks ahead of time ...
Stereo has always been notoriously bad about communicating with the public.

totally agree with this thread ... i'm not travelling from TO like some of these peeps, but even from Ottawa, it would be nice to do some planning ...
for instance ...lots of people coming to Mtl for Black and Blue ... as of right now, I'm planning on just driving up Sunday for the big party. If Stereo had announced their thanksgiving weekend lineup, I probably would have gotten a hotel, etc, and tried to do friday or saturday. Now, its too late in the game
Also, i know Fridays can be hit or miss at Stereo these days ... maybe having the bookings out earlier might entice some people to plan for some more Stereo fridays ...
November is also fast approaching and being their anniversary month and probably have some big names booked already, why not release the names and start building some hype for these nights
Announcing dates in advance is a "couteau deux tranchants" ... don't know how to say it in english but I mean that it has good and bad sides
1- People are interested in the big parties coming up and if you linked them properly with your smaller lineups online, people check out what else is going on and might be interested in these aswell
2- People get so excited for big names, that they buy tickets in advance and forget about the rest of your lineup because they planned everything in advance for that one big night with their friends etc
Also, most bookings are done in advance yes .... but change of plans occure a lot in this business. It ain't that easy. Sometimes you have a date locked in ... and because a promoter in Vancouver didnt come up with the money or cancelled last minute, your date is fucked because the artist won't come to your gig alone. Tricky stuff happen all the time .... and I mean ALL the time hehe
I'm not saying Stereo is doing a good or bad job ... I'm neutral now
I'm saying that indeed they could improve on some points, but other sides won't change, it's not an easy task to book talent
even locals
I agree. Maybe they wanna keep an underground vibe? I dunno.
LOUIS POSTED IN A STEREO THREAD THE CLUB WARS ARE BACK ON AND STRONGER THAN EVER!!!

I get your drift, and I can surely see how what you would like would benefit the club. at the same time, I think they are more concerned with their local following. I can't pretend to know all of the nuances behind bookings, but I do know that many stereo bookings are sometimes done pretty close to the actual event itself. it's sometimes economics... like getting a "tag on" booking last minute because someone else close by has done a booking and the lesser travel expense makes things a bit more viable. maher does a great job, but at the same time there is only so much he can do. the economics behind this play a big part... feel free to correct me if I am wrong guys, but I'm sure that the people more involved on here will probably confirm.
makes lots of sense to me. Proximity to EZ probably afforded Stereo the chance to do to a rare but popular booking and pack the joint, even with a $60 ticket. But it seemed like a late booking and I suspect it was probably for the reasons you wrote.
Stereo seems very non-descript in its approach, not a lot of pomp and circumstance and they can rationalize it by saying "it's not about who the dj is, it's the experience of being there, it's about the Stereo sound and vibe we will provide our customers each and every weekend."
'Just not sure this is done by design or is because of other financial reasons (or maybe both... probably both I suspect).
I personally like non-descript approach but then again, it can be annoying for the reasons stated earlier by Highroller.
to be honest, grown ups need to stop looking at club nights to make up for the lack of vag in their life and grow the fuck up

lol, the analytical Freak and the raw Freak in the same thread.
Highroller: gut feeling tells me you may see Howells at Stereo pretty soon.
I'm being facetious for sure, but if I think hard I realize that the times in my life that I wasnt getting AAA vag, were spent in an afters. with the vag on est sage. it would certainly explain why afters tend to be sausagefests.
