tech house these days is wack

I can't believe this subgenre is a norm in 2011. Im not a terminology expert in producing but it has that funny popcorn-sounding repetitive bassline with little to no creativity. let me not get into those long ass mixes that drag on with no distinct twists or turns.

I don't think I've ever heard tech-house. I don't know crap about house except for guetta, avicii, and afrojack but i understand you guys probably think they suck balls (I think that too). Is that shit even house???

So what does proper tech-house sound like?

yes! you nailed it with those examples, and I mean that as a compliment to your ability to discern what is crack and what is wack.

crack = a slang term blacks use to explain something that is great, amazing etc.

Most of the stuff people keep calling tech house aint nothing like what I consider tech house, its all minimal and just sounds like insects bumming mostly
I always thought it was stuff with a bit more erm... oooomph a bit meaty and solid sounding not clicky, whirring, beeping noise but thats the way a lot of stuff started to go around 2005/6

That shit reminds me of bad dream , being stuck in a elevator with a NI Machine and 10 samples.

wow this is the exact interpretation I'm talking about. I'd rather have electrohouse come back than have this tech house fad around.

Man people are going to think I'm such a queer when I sing along to this track when he's here on Sunday

Posted by Dreyth on Sep-14-2011 22:00:

Tech-house sounds like shoe store music to me.

well I can't front. this isn't bad but it didn't kick off until the 4th minute when the beautiful retro-style black male vocalist sings and the decent melody accompanies him.

Posted by kadomony on Sep-14-2011 22:17:

yeah i generally like the stuff that borders on deep/progressive house. chords and bits melody are essential:

I kinda liked the final song Adam posted... the rest were definitely listenable, but not anything I'd go out of my way to download. And that's the problem I find with a lot of modern-day tech house... competent, listenable, but is lacking that certain SOMETHING.

Oldskool tech house is pretty cool though:

Here's a tech house song from 1997, kinda funny how this sounds like it could have been released yesterday:

I love dancing to the exact same vibe for 5 hours!!

Very nice indeed!

I've been playing the track below for around a year now and I'll probably continue to do so for some time, as it's pretty awesome.

I myself, wouldn't have classed it as tech-house, but apparently it's been labelled as such. So who am I to argue?

Anyway, if this is tech-house, then this is certainly an example of a diamond in the rough.

Yeah, there's some stuff that's kinda hard to pin down to a genre. Like that one (love it, btw). It's got a pretty steady groove, even with all those melodic elements, so I'd have label it Tech House as well.

Here's somethin I just picked up that exemplifies my views:

I went with the UGLH Loophole mix. The rest is just standard fare, imo. Debating getting the UGLH Underground mix as well.
