Left for a bit due to overwhelming work and the board being unusually lame. Sorry I had to bail on the contest but I was doing 72 hour straight sort of work and any extra time was done sleeping.

Taking the rest of the year off to work on my own stuff.

never going to happen. Feel free to ask any question regarding theory and I will answer it but everything i would say is in a book and if not in a book , probably too complicated to understand unless you have read and grasped all those books and it would be way too much work. The wedding was great. Me and my brother can go from 0 knot winds to Katrina in a matter of 20 seconds and at one point he got all nervous about the sound set up as he thought I was being complicated and said he is just going to use an ipod so I told him to go fuck himself as I had spent literally 2000 on equipment for the reception, I was so mad that i didn't bother writing a toast as he said don't bother. Despite all my years of experience and the fact i do this as a living, i will always be his idiot brother i suppose.

Anyways, my brother despite being older always has these tantrums so I knew he would change his mind at the last second so I still worked on the audio bit but my toast was really off the cuff. There are a few things i am really proud of but man my toast, for being made on the spot was dynamite. One of those things you hope you don't fuck up but everyone was telling me that it was the best wittiest funny loving toast they had ever heard at a wedding. So never doubt the power of not caring, a wicked sense of humour and champagne.

The djing was not as much fun as I would of liked. To be honest, I never saw the downside of all the new tech as i just don't dj but first off , the time to warp so many tracks then set beatgrids in tracktor was just so time consuming. Because I had bought all my stuff the week before, I also had to program all the mappings in traktor. I found that no matter how much i wanted to dance and engage the audience, my eyes always gazed towards the laptop.

I honestly don't see the point of automating beatmatching. It doesn't work well. There are always sync issues. You have to spend so much time warping then setting beatgrids as tracktors transient algorithm is garbage.

I would of much preferred to just ride the pitch like in the olden days. Faster and more accurate. Unfortunately i didn't really have a setup with turntables which i could like those time coded vinyl so I was often at the mercy of tracktor and it was distracting.

I did really like using live tho. Had a ton of acappallas or drum beats loaded that I could trigger. Also, by routing tracktor to live, I could use a multiband compressor on each channel then a global limiter so that i didn't have to worry about gain as music from the last 50 years is quite different in rms levels. Also the effects in live are really neat and not pretty fun stuff you can do. I had control to the light controller as well which I didn't really know how to operate but I managed to find the full on death star lazer beam settings for the drops. My sister eventually was tired and helped with the lights. Man i love lazers.

I also used live to make a ton of my own edits or mashups which was fun. Was sort of necessary as they had very conservative tastes so any dance track had to have some familiar element and i didn't want to play euro dance all night so I would play tracks i like with some element people would know mixed in.

The non dance stuff was challenging in that as much as people would say just slam the fader, I was always looking for ways to have quicker smarter transitions as 3 minutes is a long time in dj time.

My girlfriend was also there and she sung during the signing which was beautiful.Great wedding to be honest. My brother played along to somewhere over the rainbow on the ukelele as the bride and her father walked down the isle. It sounds somewhat garish but since it was outside and the sun was shining and it was really cute. Can't imagine how he pulled it off as there were about 300 people looking our way. He passed the ukulele to me at some point as she got closer and expected me to play which I managed somehow.

The father was in his last stages of cancer so it was really good timing as we didn't know if he would even be alive for the wedding.
