just startin out

Hi
ive been listening to trance for a long time.. listening to live sets.. videos..
and im ALWAYS listening to music. everywhere. a friend of mine Djed and i came with him a couple times.
so i think DJing would be right for me.. I think i have an ear for music
so a friend of mine will sell me his Vestax PCV 275. i hear thats pretty good, but is it too good for me? since im just starting out..
also what are a good pair of TT"s to get? technics are a little too expensive for me
I hear the Gemini's arent bad.. like the 400's

there's no such thing as a mixer that's too good too expensive maybe I'm sure you won't be disappointed with the 275, so if you can afford it (and it's in good state) Go for it. However, as a starting DJ you really only need a basic mixer, almost anything with 3EQ band will do. But if you can get your hands on a better mixer (IE 275) for a good price, do it

If you can't afford tech 1200's I recommend these gemini TT's:
PT-2400

PT-2100

Be sure you get Direct-Drive TT's though... it may cost a bit but in the end it's worth it. If you buy belt-driven you will probably be buying new tables AGAIN within 1-2 years.

maybe I should get one of those DJ packages ? whats a good one?

You'll probably want to upgrade anyway if you get into it, so either don't splash out too much or go the whole way. The second option is risky - maybe you'll get bored of it - so most people do the first. get a low end pair of direct drives, as ampburner says, maybe even getting some second hand. Once you've been doing it for a year or two you won't be happier with anything less than Technics or Vestax though, so bear that in mind.

A starter DJ package sounds a good plan - nice and cheap

anyone have a specific package?
also.. I get TT's and a mixer.
to be a bedroom dj.. i just need a small amp and a small speaker right?

a friend of mine will sell me vestax pcv 275 for 380$ , 25 good quality records for 180$ , 200$ ortofon 2 carts,4 needles and 2 brushes
the carts and needles he just bought. never used. and the mixer he had for 2 months
hows that sound? =\
thats like 750 without TT's
im thinking of gettin those Gemini PT-2400's

2410's are awesome

they are IMO Gemini's best tables (that ive tested out )

don't get a package... most packages are crap...

I'm not sure if the price for the 275 your friends asking is a good price. I know that a lot of TA's have 275... so guys? what do you say?

well yes that depends on your definition of small. A normal stereo would suffice. but not one of those mini-sets

other than that you don't need anything... well... needles of course... and records... and then... practise

i'd pick up that 275 if I were you - should keep you happy for quite a while

as far as tables.. id just get techs if you can afford them... but whatever you do dont get belt drive tables.

the Pt2100/2400's are good suggestions, i'd agree... if you cant afford technics.
