Predicting Earthquakes!

quote:
Seven people went on trial for manslaughter Tuesday in Italy, accused of failing to predict an earthquake that killed more than 300 people in L'Aquila in April 2009.

Italians are hardly the most rational people are they? Their most famous one used to go down every pipe he could find looking for a girl.

Failing to predict an earthquake?

This is a weird quote though.

quote:
In particular De Bernardinis said in an interview with a local TV station that the scientific community was "reassuring" him, and that the numerous tremors were in some ways a good thing, as they released seismic energy.

Who would be saying "reassuring" things like that? I'm no seismologist, but that's kinda strange, given my very basic knowledge of earthquakes, etc.

I think it COULD be fair to hold them responsible depending on how much they get paid. If you want to charge someone with high consequences for when they fuck up by the same logic you should give them high rewards when they do something right.

That's piss-poor logic, and you know it.

Well think of it like this. Would you rather have a million tonnes of water dropped onto you in one large sum or drop by drop. Even if its the same amount of water one is just annoying and one will probably kill you

Its pretty obvious that the common Italian has not advanced much further than the barbarian hordes that destroyed Rome and set back humanity a few hundred years. Looks like they still don't understand modern concepts.

Idiots.

And your view on those people whose army tanks go in reverse only has nothing to do with your masturbation material, amanda knox

I would be lying if I said that wasn't a part of it, but even if she was unattractive, even if she was a guy I would be mad (though if she was from any other part of this country I probably wouldn't care as much).

But I have always had a distaste for the Italian people in general.

I find that italian people don't know how to form queues or show manners but in general it's just funny to watch them go about their everyday business with grease falling off. And some of their women are hot, but mostly italian-candia-brit-merican-australians, not the full ones

Come on, Nou, you're being childish now! This is just like an Anti-American dunce saying Mericans are stupid just because they're born in a particular place

You forget that there are a lot of Italians that came to the US.

Quiet you! It confers so much more legitimacy onto his complaints regarding Italian judicial inadequacy when it plainly comes from his own prejudicial bias.

True, but many more came to Brazil, so it's like a circle unjerk

Seriously though if you want to make that argument... Most Italians descend from a pretty much the same stock, they are Italians through and through, you can trace lineages back hundreds and hundreds of years and usually they wont stray far beyond what Italy is today. That is the case for a lot of parts in Europe. So yes, you could argue that if Italians consistently say and do stupid shit its probably because they were born there.

The US is a nation of immigrants from all over the world, our lineage here can be traced back not nearly as long as it could in Italy and not nearly as widely as it could in Italy. A lot of our population is only a few generations old, with most people only settling here in the 19th century.

I am not saying that the US is less stupid than Italy, I am saying that Americans are stupid for different reasons.

Actually, Nou, there have been massive migrations in and out the Italian Peninsula for ages. Pretty much everyone southwards from the Rio Grande (and sizeable populations in both countries northwards), and pretty much the whole of Western Europe - the UK included - either speaks a Latin language or speaks a language largely influenced by Latin (English comes here), having been influenced both culturally and genetically by the . Roman settlers went as far as England, as you probably remember, and then during the Middle Ages the Italian Peninsula was repopulated with even more outsiders, who also came to settle in other areas of Europe. Given the usual trade in the Mediterranean, to claim "Italians are stupid because they were born there" is akin to saying "Europe and North America are made up of idiots". That's misanthropy more than anything remotely close to the truth.

And all these immigrants were either Italian or ethnic groups (in)directly influenced by the Italians.

And I'm saying that, if Italians are stupid, then Americans ought to be stupid for the very same reason.

This hypothesis holds no water, (un)fortunately.
