getting your music out there
Hey guys,
In the electronic music world, what is the usual/standard protocol for getting your music, for example, on a compilation release. I come from a band background and the protocol (for a distribution deal) was basically, write and record your album, obtain management (this is slowly becoming redundant), they chat with various labels and obtain best offers for you to check out, you negotiate terms and conditions (as advised by your management and music solicitor) and a deal is either done or not done.
Is the process the same in the elec Dance music world? Are there different avenues and channels that one may take?
cheers,

Getting music in movies, advertisement or games can be done a couple of ways.
The hard way: Get famous/heard, get asked.
The slightly easier way: Get a publisher to promote your tracks for you with potential advertisers, advertisement agencies, record labels making compilations, movie production companies, game publishers etc.
Apart from those there is no other way I can think of. Most of these the above businesses you want to reach work with a select bunch of contacts that can send in demo material for their lates product and that doesn't include individual artists in normal situations.
thanks for the advice and insight, I will get that book too,
cheers,
