i dont see how its cheating and fukked up considering its probably only gonna be for home use just for fun

and even if you are saving up for the real stuff you can still learn the basics of beatmatching and cueing its just extra practice that cant hurt you

dont be so negative he was only asking a harmless question

amdmaxx - i have no idea if its out i didnt even know they were making a #2

Posted by amdmaxx on Aug-23-2002 20:24:

Endre - got nothing good to say, then just dont say anything.. u didnt answer my question and veered completely off topic..
XxClayxX - version 2 is supposed to come out in August, September.. their web site is not clear about it, but it should have MAJOR improvements..

"Cheating"? "Childish"??? lmao!!!

When e-mail was developed, it was also considered by traditionalists like you as "cheating" and "childish." Argument:

"Where is the pleasure in writing e-mail? The reality is lost - you don't have the smell of ink, the feel of paper. There is no skill involved - all you do is press buttons!! And the fact that it's sent instantly ruins the whole point! There is no suspense, the anticipation of receiving a letter, it's all gone!"

Same thing with software mixing, a la Traktor. Although mixing with real hardware is a *lot* more fun and a lot more fulfilling and involves "real skill", more and more people are using software mixing programs because they are cheaper and more convenient. A lot of mixes that you buy on CD's are mixed by software and not by the traditional way even though you might not suspect it.

Face it people, this world is getting computerized and going digital very fast. You either adapt to it or get left behind. Simple facts.

P.S. When I got my turntables I found that it was *actually* a lot easier to mix with than with software mixers, especially Traktor! This is because of the way that these programs are made. It's just such a bitch to mix with them because it's all clunky and cumbersome doing it with a mouse and keyboard. With turntables you use both hands and it's 100% manual, no bpm counters or other junk. Once you learn to beatmatch, you find that it's actually harder to do it properly on the computer than with "real" hardware.

So saying that it's "easy" is wrong - I never sweated as much when mixing than when I mixed with Traktor.

YMMV.

im from sweden and it does not mean that.
"lgg gg far far skgg" means "Lay egg grad father beard" to be correct. so can you translate this: "om inte du r tyst nu s ska jag bza din mamma"...its not nice, but in case you need it some times.

cheerz "Snabbmp3"

There is nothing wrong with playing with mp3 mixing software, If your not a DJ yet you would love to hear your mp3 collection in a mix like a pro DJ, Those softwares will help do the trick, Especially if you want to make your own mix CD with your favorite tracks, I use a program called AtomixMP3 2.1 and I aint no DJ, I dont want to be one, I use the software cause its fun to play your tracks and mix them with the others to create your own personalize mix, The fact someone had to go out of there way to tell that person to get the real thing is disrespectful cause all he wanted was the best mp3 mixing software, no real TTs, Not everyone can't aford the real thing cause maybe they dont have room for actual ones plus there very very expensive, So software mp3 mixing is the alternate solution.

Posted by Haai Henk on Aug-27-2002 19:29:

It's not cheating, it's beginning with DJ-ing. I still use the prog too, but I want to buy some real equipment soon, computer mixing is very good to get to know mixing.

Posted by Ugg on Aug-28-2002 21:55:

Go ahead and flame me if you want for this, but.. I own turntables & a ton of vinyl and I still use programs like Traktor and Virtual Turntables. Why? Because my tables aren't nearly as portable as a laptop computer loaded with MP3 vinyl rips. With a laptop, I can experiment with different track orders and transitions while I'm away from home, then try out those changes on the decks when I am at home.
Mind you, I would never take my laptop to a club to mix! But for frequent travelers, it's nice to be able to "practice" while you're away.

Now the argument.. For those that use mixing programs CORRECTLY, they CAN be good learning tools. Just as long as you don't use the auto-beatmatch features - now that's cheating!

Posted by fieroavian on Aug-30-2002 08:03:

they first said they would roll out Traktor 2.0 in august, then they *discreetly* changed the date to late september, without explanation. give it 2 more months, bro. yes, it may not come out until halloween, so stick with v1.12 for now.

i ain't really fond of Traktor 2.0, tho. at 1029x772 pixels, it doesn't fit my laptop's screen. i saw the screenshot and it scared the crap outta me. fuck sake i'm not a closed-mind asshole, but i'm quite content with the old version, until i can afford $1,500 for a pair of decks and mixer, and $9,000 for all my tunes on vinyl.

ok i'm going to disagree with this sentence.

mixing programs are a pain in the azz. you have to deal with a keyboard/mouse, and be limited to your movements and have to think FAR too much about the commands when you should be thinking of beats phrases and flow.

I'm not sure exactly how much traktor 2.0 will be, but traktor 1 is not cheap! I've seen dual CD decks on eBay for about the price of traktor 1. add an inexpensive mixer, and you've got a basic hardware mixing setup that will teach you FAR more about how to mix than your PC.

don't get me wrong. I used MP3 mixing software for a good year... and it taught me alot.. but if I had to do it again with what I know today, I'd pick up a basic dual CD deck off eBay, and an el-cheapo used mixer... atleast then I wouldnt have to watch a CRT and punch buttons while learning

traktor 2 will hopefully be an improvment. I couldnt stand traktor 1.

^^^ Seems like you caught the contradiction in my post. Although I did say that it's more convenient getting the software package (and whoever said anything about buying it? ), I also said:
