Is this like your last psychill mix? "Psychill" is quite a broad area, and I like certain sounds a lot more than others.

Nice. Usually the stuff you play is quite a bit too hard for my fragile mind, glad to see something of yours I'm eager to try out.

Well, it's significantly less "happy/new-agey", and a good deal more dreamy. Still got a bit of bump, though. Try it, you might not hate it.

Thanks, Matt. I kept messing with that transition into Cley Hill, it's kinda tough when the beats won't match. Life on Planet Earth wasn't very friendly to mix out of, the beats stop suddenly so I made the transition kinda sudden. Hopefully that's the only shady transition. I appreciate the listen even though I give you shit sometimes. Glad you enjoyed it

Already fucking love it.

Great job.

Nice mix. It's always a pleasure to hear something from Ektoplazm.

Posted by Magadansky on Oct-16-2011 18:08:

Excellent set zip. I liked the mood in it, very groovy actually. I had great time listening to it since it really contained positive energy, perfect for my lazy Sunday. Mixing was also very good except at 23:40 mark when you changed the mood a bit too drastically (I was actually reading something by that time and suddenly I felt the change not very pleasantly). The rest - perfect!

Indeed. Ektoplazm is chock full of goodies, but it also has a lot of stuff that doesn't really grab me. Like anything else, you have to listen to a lot of it to find the good stuff

Yeah, Cley Hill has been the black sheep in this mix, it seems. I felt that way when I was mixing it, but I do like the track. Maybe my timing was just bad. Thanks for listening, you actually got a review in super quick! You're the man, Magadansky, I swear I think you've listened to nearly every single mix I've released in this forum. My only wish is that you would become a little more active, I need more stuff like what was in your Classics mix!

To all those listening or downloading, thank you so much! I love the support!

Oh god grabbing this ASAP. Can't wait to listen

Ah those first few tracks were blissful. Really enjoyed this.

I like crystals. And dreams.

Posted by FuzzQi on Oct-19-2011 05:17:

that was some good shit zip

Posted by Lunar Phase 7 on Oct-19-2011 10:51:

Real long shot, but is any of this shit in 5.1 or DTS?

My bro just got a shit-hot surround system and I cannot explain how good the BT score of Monster sounds on that. Some panoramic psy-chill would be mind blown material.

Thanks, man! Kingstoned was one of my favorites, and then Walking on Strings and Night Shore Walk were also megadreamy imo. Glad you enjoyed it

Thanks Daniel! I think it's a lot better than my last psychill mix.

Good question, I'm not really sure. You can get the ones available from Ektoplazm in a lossless WAV or FLAC format, but I don't think any of it is supporting 5.1 surround sound. Sorry mate

Bass line on this second track is great.

Same, but with different reasoning.

I don't know this genre. I having a passing familiarity with psytrance and goa, but it's basically superficial. It never really caught my ear.

That said, my preconceived notions of psytrance definitely influenced my opinion of what "psy chill" would be. I for sure didn't think I'd like it at all, but the fact that it was labeled "chill" in concert with the fact that you've always taken a shot at my sets basically made me glad to try something different, even if I suspected I might not like it.

Thankfully, my preconceived notions couldn't have been more inaccurate. At times this set reminded me of some of my favorite artists (Lemongrass, Lemon Jelly, lots of the old "Perfecto Chills" kind of stuff), but was entirely new to me so it was super fresh.

Great music to just get lost in the headphones to, was programmed well over all, and I think the only mixing issue I even noticed was the aforementioned trainwreck like 20 minutes in - it didn't last long, and it didn't throw off the vibe of the set. The only part I really, really, really didn't like was the last track, which is convenient because in the future I can just turn it off

Will be keeping this one for the archives. Nice work buddy.

Thanks to all who gave it a shot (and in some cases went outside their comfort zones) and listened. I'm happy with how this mix sounds, and I only wish I could have made it a little longer.

I don't disagree with you about that last track, Rob, I think I chose that one based on the energy level alone. I wanted something to close out the set that had a little more oomph to it so that the listener felt like something was accomplished throughout the mix. It's not easy to find tracks like these, like pozz said, a lot of tracks that are labeled "psychill" are meandering and pointless, so I picked the ones that were dreamy and enjoyable as well as a couple that had a little bounce so the set could progress.

As far as the "trainwreck" is concerned (I think that's a bit harsh of a word tbh! ), as Life on Planet Earth was ending, the energy isn't really dropping much and there is no outro. Only beats until there are no more beats, then silence. So I tried to make Cley Hill come in as soon as that last beat dropped, and I suppose it came in a little too abruptly for the purposes of this set. My sincere apologies, and I'm glad the rest of the tracks had enough quality to not ruin the mix.

Thanks for listening everybody! Tell your friends, have them tell their friends!

Fuck that.

Don't explain and apologize, Nick. While this habit of self-conscious superficial criticism among you and some of the other younger fellows (I'm looking at you, Austin) just getting into things is understandable (believe me, I relate), I hope you're not hearing things like this and thinking it "ruined" anything for anyone.

You are allowed to be a perfectionist (I am), but when you aren't perfect, take it in stride, and know it'll be better next time. And then again. Desire to work - to do it again - should be the response, because man, you've got nothing to apologize for.

I didn't really even go into this necessarily wanting to like it, yet I knew during the first track I would, and I damn well did. If our roles were reversed, I'd be pretty proud of that.

I just discovered that my favorite track in the mix Children of the Bong - Life On Planet Earth is a track from 1995. those numbers are a fucking pleasure to my eyes, I swear. the drums in that joint are sick.

Well put. Every time I post a mix here, I hope there are no issues with the mixing, since Teezdalien once told me that one simple trainwreck ruins sets, and in seeing Dave King's review for Jack's Return to Eden mix I noticed that he didn't enjoy the mix because of a few bad transitions, so if I fuck up I try to apologize for the inconvenience. Just trying to be humble, since there are some seriously awesome DJ's in this forum and I don't want to downplay any mistakes. But I see your point.

Hey, Matt, I knew you would like those numbers, you should really check out the album Sirius Sounds from them, I think you'd like it.
