The DJMag results are more lulz than they've ever been before. Avicii at #6? srs?

It seems every DJ who didn't sell out in 2011 went down multiple places, and every DJ who did (or just started with terrible cheese music) went up. Skrillex up to rank 19, Afrojack and Avicii in the top 10, but Cosmic Gate went down 19 places and Digweed & Sasha went down nearly 30 places each? Even Oakenfold took a 19 rank hit. Simon Patterson went down 48. Hawtin went down 16.



Sad to say that many of the above DJ's fans don't vote in the polls because they think DJMags polls are a load of crap (which they are). But the problem there is that the only person they are hurting by not voting IS their favorite DJs. It's not like they're "sticking it to DJmag" or proving a point or anything, they're simply taking potential advertisement AWAY from their favorite DJs.

I hope more people vote next year, just for the sake of the amazing DJs that do all the work with none of the fame.

thats what you get when you involve facebook and dj polls together.

before that at least people had to search. spend a good 10 min to find out where to vote. that meant a voter was committed to this. With face book it was just a clik away and so much easy to share. so the obvious happened. we all knew it. Move on.

Sasha boat party, Lee Burridge's All Day I Dream (& Burning Man sunrise), Scumfrog @ Good Units. Anyone who went to any of these parties know that those DJs threw down the sickest parties this year, and they could give two shits about the polls. None had bottle service, or sold out a giant venue. the polls !

i didnt vote this year but it's clear that the new generation of voters really are clueless imo
i will continue to keep supporting local dj's, and dj's who keep it real
but looking at this poll as an outsider this is a dark and sad day for edm

I'm convinced voting as a system only works with a small, educated population. After that it just seems to become a money / power game - and not just with DJ Mag..

Yeah, only white, male, land owners should be able to vote in DJ mag. There would be so much more techno!

it's not the #1 dj as in quality contest, but the #1 as in popularity contest and guetta clearly has more fans. i mean the guy keeps collaborating with mainstream artists, he just needed a portion of their fan base to push him to the top. i'm really more disappointed that randoms pushed their way to the top like avicci, afrojack, and dash berlin. maybe one day they'll get good enough or be around long enough but it's not today.

Ha, was just talking about this tonight, I dont even know 1/2 the DJs on this years poll. As Sean Tyas mentioned, maybe trance will go underground again, which to me it a great thing...

It absolutely baffles me why people get all upset about this poll. Its 100%, unashamedly a popularity contest. facebook has been blwoing up tonight because David Guetta is #1 this year. NEWS FLASH...he deserves to be, and its not even close!

Do I personally like him? Um, no. But he has 24 MILLION fans on facebook. The #2 dj in the world...Armin...has less than 4 million. David Guetta is, by far, the most recognizable name in dance music right now...its not even close. No one is saying he is the best, and that he is a better dj than say, Armin, or Sasha, or whoever. He is merely more POPULAR. Why is that such a big deal?

People seem to take such personal offense to this poll every year. I just don't get it.

the Argentino and Bedrock's head honcho are the top two in my heart man.

The thing is though...the average age of people who go out these days is getting younger and younger, especially in this country. I have younger brothers and sisters in law, who are in high school and college, who don't really go to clubs or follow dance music. They know who Skrillex is. They know who Avicii is. They have no clue who Sven Vath is.

Just for comparison...I typed in 2 searches in youtube just now. "Sven Vath New York" and "Skrillex New York." These are the first 2 live event videos that came up for each... I am not saying either is better than the other musically. I personally prefer Sven's music. But they cater to 2 completely different demographics. Skrillex's demographic is just so much bigger than Sven's these days.

EDIT: Besides the content of each video, look at the view count for each. Sven's video has a little more than 500 views. Skrillex's has 265...THOUSAND. Do the math.
