Life Cycle of a Raver

Stolen from TOTA. This is some gold right here.

Stolen from DJMag. Yeah Rave Goblin knows everything.

I skipped steps 5 and 6 Never went to Ibiza.

Oh man, Stage 7's got my number...

Also laughed pretty hard at the Basic Channel album at the bottom.

not one mention of glowsticks? how sad the new school is.

If I didn't know better, I'd say that was a picture of TA in the background...

1. Yeah, I guess 2 Unlimited fits the bill on this one.

2. I never personally owned it, but Dance Mix '92 definitely had a similar effect on me.

3. Can't say that ever happened to me, at least not for half a decade later, and even then it was only little dinky parties in Canada's northwest. Hey, it's a very isolated region!

4. Hm, the "blossoming taste" part is right - I soon abandoned DJs like Chris Sheppard and MC Mario in favor of compilations featuring tons of German trance, but I didn't join any music forums until much later.

5. Must be a European thing, 'cause I've never been to Ibiza, nor do I have much inclination to go. I s'pose Shambhala's the closest thing that matches this.

6. Heh, I'm not so stupid to think something like that. I've sure known a lot of folks over the years who've said the same thing about partying in general tho'.

7. Eh, I've never felt the need to get that obsessive with my music hunting habits. I get more of a thrill with the 'accidental discovery' when shopping. This method just sounds like homework.

8. Hey, is that why I became such a Neil Young fanboy!?

9. Yeah, I'm pretty sure I did this for a while, but...

10. For some reason, I find myself dancing harder and enjoying myself more at parties than I ever have in the last five years. Could this be that mythical "post-jaded" stage...?

5, 6 and 8 definitely does not apply, but I probably would have if I could have. Funny, and that does look like TA

Re: Life Cycle of a Raver

LOL.

1. I don't remember what my "track zero" was. First one I remember really liking was Orbital's "Halcyon + On + On" in Hackers like fifteen years ago, but that was when I was twelve years old or something, and I didn't actually "get into" dance music or even learn who wrote the track until years later.

2. Think my first mix was a GU, maybe Digweed's Los Angeles one? My friends definitely owned some cheesy trance mixes, though, and I listened to those, too.

3. Would have wanted to be out every weekend, at least. Not enough money or the right area for that to happen, though.

4. Yeah, this is accurate with the top DJs and stuff. Joined a forum, too, but never posted on any until years later.

5, 6. Never went to Ibiza. Sort of wanted to, but nobody to go with!

7. Nah, never really got into obscurity for the sake of it, though for a while I'd say I was sort of attracted by "difficulty" (i.e. dissonance) in that way, which sort of overlaps.

8. Lol, never had a rock period, though I've definitely had stretches when I've hated dance music for a while.

9. I dunno, on the rare times I go out with people we all dance. They're pretty far from the chin-stroking hipster type, though.

10. Like Sykonee, I'd say I feel much less jaded than I used to. I'm more open to different styles than I've ever been, think this is a great time for music, and don't feel the compulsion anymore to wish I was back in the "good old days."

It's some forum that starts with a "D". Just checked from the original magazine.

What's the forum in the picture? Besides, totally gold image.

Posted by bas on Oct-28-2011 15:10:

That's pretty funny. I'm currently at #9 and thoroughly enjoying myself

Yeah I think it's that. When I look this magazine page with a goddamn magnifying glass it looks like a dogsonacid.com.

Posted by Redd on Oct-28-2011 16:10:

Yeah it is. Good, we should have a rule 1 and 2 on this board!

Posted by weidenkind on Oct-29-2011 17:02:
