Can we get some 'Maximum insanity' in this thread or whatever that new tiesto shit is?

Posted by GGM on Oct-27-2011 17:04:

Really disappointed in Gareth's direction the last year. Done some messed up crap that would be bad even by dirty dutch standards.

that is the best thing tiesto has produced in at least 5 years.

if he produced it (unlikely)

Posted by jon jon on Oct-27-2011 19:07:

ps. some pretty bad music in this thread lol

Posted by Transoholic on Oct-27-2011 19:24:

oh good god

occupy dubstep!

I know there are some that are all like "whatever man, music changes, etc, etc."

this is too much.

Gareth was already getting stuck in sounding the same anyway with the Garuda "sound", but that's just a normal thing. This, is crossing the line.

Formentera what!
No way back
Back on track

who were those tracks by?

personally I think when Armin does these kinds of things it's less offending and generally tolerable, not a complete obvious whore-out.

Hurts more when it's someone you like.

DJ's actually playlist this shit too which blows my mind. DJ's I actually like which is even more sad. The only positive is now we can actually start to distinguish the good from the bad instead of everyone making the same damn tracks waiting to see who's gonna break out over the past 5 years. (insert way longer than 5 years joke here)

i remember starting to listen to Gareth... back in 07-08...

enjoyed his podcasts... he blew up in 09, and he could do no wrong in my eyes back then...
every podcast had new amazing tracks...
seen him twice in '09, in Chicago and Windsor... both amazing sets, and once in '10 in Detroit.. also a great set...

then 2011 came... and Gareth changed... for the worst...
his podcasts started to become filled w/ garbage... dubstep... etc...

listening to his live sets was painful...

only saving grace was seeing him again in Chicago for his Northern Lights concert... still a good show...
that will be my last good memory of Gareth...
i will not see him again while hes playing this shit he calls music now...

This has BT's over production written all over it.

Posted by feelgood on Nov-02-2011 19:14:

I think every single shit song mentioned in this thread can be found in your local college bar dj's playlist. Peppered with an ample dosage of Aviici and Alesso.

Ok my ears are bleeding, i think im gonna go find that progressive thread and bump it.

i think we have to draw some line here. i mean, there is a limit to your/our cynisicm. if i was 15 years old, and i heard that garuda track or this tomahawk track, i would love it to death, but thats not the case because i am turning 25 soon. however, i suggest you guys contribute more clearly what is that you're hating so so much and produce a proper discussion into this if you are passionate about it. the production values of these tracks are very high, that being said if i may sidetrack for a bit, i feel thats some of the problem of new music, it is overproduced and lacks in soul, anyway, thats a whole other topic to discuss.

there is a place for this cheesery, and it contributes to noobies starting out, and digging harder into the underground sounds we all cherish so much. we all started somewhere, and gateways are needed. So, Im not sure why im saying this but, we should be partially applauding these efforts as much as it seems like a cash grab on the bandwagon: trust me a lot of underground guys are making fuck all in sales, and its hard to do what you love when its getting spat on. I do not blame these guys, is there a limit though? I cant say for sure, I dont know much in depth or synergies in the industry and such.

If anything to take from this post is, cherish, pass-on and promote the music you do love, and stop the hating threads as much, im not pointing anyone out because i can too be guilty(i especially love joking around on forums), but mortyman, whens the last time you started a thread in tota about a track you fell for? kind of a rhetorical question, dont really answer it.

wait... dubstep! wubwubwubwubwuwb rawwwwrrr fsssst. wubwuwb. doorbell?

Would be nice if more people did create threads focusing on the good stuff they love as you suggest but from what I've seen as soon as that happens there's 10 TOTA seagulls in there shitting away on it and saying how it's crap and the person is an idiot for liking it.

Posted by feelgood on Nov-02-2011 19:40:

I think the point is that many formerly 'reputable' artists are trading in their artistic integrity to make money. Formulaic sounds, cookie cutter templates. That isnt art.

You're right, there is plenty of cynicism, and we all started out listening to cheese. But, im 25 and have been listening to electronic music for 10 years now. I can afford to dish out all this cynicism. In fact it'd be 'irresponsible' of me to praise this commercial factory pop.

my humble opinion..
