Hello! [WIP] Did I steal this melody from something else?

HELP! It sounds good to me but I just wanted to make sure that I didn't just subconsciously rip the melody from something else. If it's all good, then i'm going to run with it.

WIP - 6 by TomLue

Please let me know and thanks for the ears!

Cheers!
Tom Lue

It has a ring of familiarity to it but I think it's original. That said, you might try seeing if anyone down in the forum, below, recognizes it. I definitely like it, though. Very pretty.

one of my friends accidently wrote 'Barracuda' by Heart, we jammed on it for like 15 minutes all like "this is awesome!" before realizing it :/

EDIT: This actually sounds like every song Coldplay has ever done

Well, now I feel a little trashy.

Not a bad thing! I'm sure people will eat it up.

Tomo if you want some constructive criticism I'd say look for a more 'real' sounding piano voice

Hi Eddie, nice to run into you again. =) Meriter, would you happen to have any recommendations on the best sounding piano vst? Currently i'm just using Nexus but I am sure there are better and more expensive options.

This sounds very polished and good to me - the piano whilst not the most realistic has a toy quality that for me suits the mood as is.

Make this into a monster track - can well imagine some husky vocals on this - Man or Woman.

Piano sounds decent enough. The composition is pretty compelling, so it may be worth experimenting with the more real sound they mentioned. This works, though. Maybe a tad bit more compressed feel would squeeze it out more. You have a lot of room in those chords to experiment with counter point, so try to get more of a hook going. Sounds pretty nice.

It is the same chord progression as all these other songs

Love Poundin' Sensation

Great Melody however!

I wasn't trying to be a jerk about it, in case it came off that way

yes and no, the instrumentation is different but this c minor progression loop is very popular, there is no melody until the end where i think your progressing fine after arpeggiating the chord.

A far as listener experience, I think that you strike the right tone with melody and short builup - definitely would like to hear what you will do with the rest of this idea, sweet, catchy and with excelent potential to be develop into a great track/song/production.

Cheers,

the piano part is a little too close to main theme from sunshine even tho sunshine was generic in its own right. YOu are playing a pop progression with a melody that isn't really a melody more so that just notes of the chord. So i would say there are hundreds of tracks that you could say have the same or similar.

to be honest, i don't like your voicing. You should keep the 5th and 3rd of the first chord d minor i believe and keep that going which when you go to IV will give you a nice major 7th dissonance and iron out some of the cheese.

There is alot more you could do with it. Rising diatonic patterns which add dissonance resolve and mask the generic yet catchy root chords.

I would also distort the piano. Best piano ever in a dance track.
starts at the break. The distortion sucks the cheese right out.
