REVIEW: JOHN '00' FLEMING (UK) 6-HOUR *COUGH COUGH* 4-HOUR Set @ Pacha Lounge

Do people even do reviews on here anymore? lol.

The crowd was really small, but I didn't get a damn: John "00" Flemming was amazing every minute while I was there. I was not bored at all during what I heard of his set. Best of all what really made my limited time there was: Meeting with a few old faces: Bogdan (who I apparently haven't seen in 10 years LOL), Stylez & Chris (endlesswave). Wow. If that party lasted longer for me, it would've been a really nice night. Sigh.

Now, the bad stuff: THE PARTY WAS SHUT DOWN UNEXPECTEDLY EARLY, 1 HR AFTER I PAID COVER. I paid cover @ 3:00 AM, and the nice promotor guy let me in who mentioned it was going until 6:00 AM, as the event listing advertised. I start enjoying the music, then by around 4:00 AM, the lights are being turned on(!) I hear, from Bogdan, that "they're trying to shut it down". At around 4:10 John stopped his set. Then he started to play one more track for the crowd after stopping his set, but he still cut his encore track off after 3 minutes?? REALLY??? We can't get the full 6-hr set as advertised, and then can't even get a full encore track to play??

In summary: Amazing music, I am thankful someone has brought J00F to Toronto - I would look forward to seeing him again. Very positive oldschool TA faces after I disapeered for so long, That said: I understand shit happens, but as a customer; the unexpected cutoff of the party left a bad taste in my mouth.

Dude If I would have known you we're unhappy I would have given your money back. I know sometimes things don't turn out the way they're supposed to but I would gladly refund you if you asked

Other than that AMAZING PARTY! and more JOOF Editions BIGGER & BETTER TO COME!

So are you mad or not, I don't get it cuz you make it sound like the night was a disaster when it turned out to be a fucking fantastic night!!

Posted by Flama Blanca on Oct-29-2011 13:48:

anybody know why the party got shut down early?

Posted by LightsOut on Oct-29-2011 14:14:

An advertised 6 Hour set that's cut to 4 hours is a legitimate reason to be disappointed imo.

I'm sure their was a reason of course, and it doesn't necessarily reflect on the overall quality of the event, just a little something that could leave a bad taste, as the OP stated.

I agree, I should have brought up my concern and asked. Is asking for a concession on a 2012 party out of the question?

Han an AMAZING time last night! JOOF brought is fucking A game and destroyed that club wow! The man amazes me every single time I seen him for the past 10+ years now. Unfortunately we could not record his set (I did record my set as usual though). The man plays way too many unreleased unheardof tracks that are only meant to be heard during a live JOOF experience. Super nice guy, really down to earth and totally loves what he does.
Loved all the costumes, Del's was the best LOL! And people were happy smiling everywhere. Met people that came from Ottawa and all the way from Vancouver for JOOF Editions, so goes to show you the man has the most loyal following out of any trance DJ I've ever seen, and really brings out people that believe in our music and our scene. Thanks to everyone who came out, it was a night to remember!

I just have to mention that it's been about ten years now since I registered at TA. It was strange to think that a decade ago, when Armin was spinning at low-profile clubs (sort of like pacha), vinyl was still totally dominant, and places that no longer exist (like system soundbar and viva) were bringing in JOOF. If it weren't for Oz et. al. and their efforts, there would be nobody bringing in JOOF.

John is notoriously critical but I can't think of any flaws in Morty's opening set as he built it up nicely.

The sound improved with more bodies to dampen the glassy
mids.

I'm processing the grain out from the video as I type and haven't looked at the footage yet. I've recorded an hour of stuff, so I'm not sure what the end size will be.

I was concerned when I first walked in at 11:30 with the low attendance, but at around 12:30 there was a pretty good crowd. I ended up having a really great time so from my point of view the night was a success! John (JOOF) is always a good guy to goof around with. I'm so glad he's one of the guys that doesn't have his head up his ass. When I asked him how long he's been spinning, he told me it's been about 25 years. I asked him his age, which is 42, and joked that he was still a baby (compared to me). He got a laugh out of that.

I chat with too many to mention, but it was good to see the familiar faces I've grown accustomed to at Oz's events. It almost feels like family. One moment during the night that really stuck out was when my buddy Richard only had a couple of bucks left and wanted to buy a beer. I dug in my pocket and pulled out some change to top him up (I would have bought him one anyways). Just as he asked the bartender for a beer he noticed something on the floor and picked it up. As soon as we both saw what it was we laughed. It was a twenty and he ended up buying me a beer!

As for the "non-packed" night, you really can't blame anyone for that. The fact Guv was having that massive event didn't help. So many that would have came to JOOF any other weekend concentrated on Guv instead. So much for support!

Idea

I was hopin' we were all gonna have our own "occupy Pacha" little sit-in, when the tall black dude started, basically, screaming for people to leave.

I understand the need for security, especially with a full club and all the drunk people. Why can't security have, say, a contract that says they can leave at a certain time? I mean, J00F would have kept on playing, the handful of fans/partiers could just carry on until the agreed-upon time at the end of six hours? Just curious.

I'm sure there's some regulatory---or perhaps, liability/insurance---reason they need to force everyone to leave. But why so abruptly? Was it necessary for the security to get so testy and commit the most vicious of buzz kills: randomly flick on the light! The room was full of people that looked like this:

Besides the security mis-hap, great party.

Why this thread went from being a stated review to a chance for me to air out like a petty gas-bag is beyond me. Now let us turn to the main event: the music.

That digital blonde track (I think it was Trina) never sounded so good. Awesome. Lots of other usual flavors: E-clip, Wizzy Noize(I think), and started nice and deep. I suspect he had something special in the full-on dept. a little later, but he played lots of prog-psy which I tend to prefer anyway. Push (universal nation?) at the end was really nice.

I look forward to the next event like this I can make the trip for.

Lastly, I like how the interface on this website has not changed in a decade. I feel like it's early 2002 and I'm listening to Yahel - Waves of sound (my first exposure to psy) and I don't want to leave my room because I took some shrooms and was tripping out.

Tracklist please!! I don't think I've ever heard you play like this before, sounds like a great warmup set... what would you even call this? Progressive trance? There's a lot of different types of tracks that I'm having a hardtime categorizing, but I really like it!

drewfactor, Push track was original club mix of Legacy.

I also remember 2001 when you joined, however, I remember Armin was jamming Guv already at that time, M.I.K.E. was a little late bloomer here in 2002 inside Kool Haus. I remember going to Meow night club in 2000, seeing Agnelli & Nelson, Digweed $ Sasha, and many more. By 2000, trance DJ's were here to stay in huge clubs. I dont remember Armin having to play small venues in 2001. He was massive by 2000 along with Tiesto, Van Dyk, etc. Industry night club hosted all these DJ's too before closing, not to mention former names for Guv and Kool Haus, RPM and Warehouse also jammed EDM theme from the start.
