Should I buy this?
A friend of mine is offering to sell me his Boss Dr. Sample SP202, for $300 canadian.
do you think i should buy it?
it also comes with a bunch of extra stuff, a bag, cables mic, adapter etc.
not sure if it is really all that easy to use with my decks though, does anyone have one of these?
i have one of those
its in the corner collecting dust
I don't know, if you buy it for the BPM counter people on this forum are going to bitch you out. hehe

Yeah, the BPM counter is shite anyway. the auto BPM don't work at all (or i can't figure out how to get it to work) and the TAP function isn't that accurate. I tapped out 256 beats on it, and it was ranging from 132 to 139 the whole time, i know the song is 135.
but, yeah, i don't really need it for the BPM counter anyway, i beatmatch with my ears.
the sampler itself is kinda neat, but it doesn't do what i want it to. I want to sample 4 beats, (or even just one beat) of the next record i am going to mix in, on the fly. then just loop that, mix it in early to get that sound into the track. then, when i know the right time, drop the track on the other deck, and bring that in instead.
however, doing this proves very tedious and difficult. making a sample on the fly like that is tough, to get the start and end points of the loop right is a bitch, and you can only sorta edit it after, by pressing a button where you want it to start and stop. I guess they made it as good as they good though, without having an editing window where i can see the waveform. still, it's kinda useless for that.
so, DJ liquid, does your 600 do a good job of that? how well does that auto beat sampling work, can you just grab 4-8-16-32 beats really easy on the fly from the next track and loop them?
I've always wanted to try one of them, but everyone i know opted for the 500.

I say don't get it.. and if you really want a sampler go for the kaoss pad
I say ALL GO if you really plan on working on it seriously but there are serious suggestions I might add:
use a portable cd player with it to put your samples on audio cds an when you're live , record them on the sampler , and do your thing
you can subsitute with a minidisc player, which I suggest over all...
I have seen people do it!
it's a great idea if you want to play around doing mini live acts,
I've even seen a vid of a guy using three at once!
DJ LIQUID! GIVE ME YOURS! or sell it ! I'm serious PM ME!
i have a MD player too, i use it to record my mixes. it is not at all the same thing though.
i can't pitch shift, add effects, loop, ply in reverse, or any of that with a MD, and using it would be tedious as well.

How much would you be willing to sell it for? This guy is asking $300, but that's canadian dollar so.. about $1 american.
no, just kidding, $192.62 US, according to xe.com
do you think it's worth that? with a bunch of extras, including a 2Mb smart card, a camera bag that holds it (my friend said she bought one of those for $200) and a crappy mic i will never use.
all i have is the unit itself (with the memory card) and the ac adapter to power it
im will to part with it for about $150...its all nagotiable though
I bought it.
love it.
