I just posted this on FB. It's really good but I think he overdid it on Scuba, just a bit.

EDIT: really good

sweet! thanks Woody - i was waiting for someone to put that out there

Hilarious tracklist, Sasha wants to be one of the cool kids again.

Posted by bigperf on Nov-19-2011 01:24:

he wants a vegas residency.

obviously the guy is going downhill, facts:

1) played to a nowhere near capacity ruby skye during halloween weekend
2) played at sutra(had never been reduced to having to do so)
3) playing at voyeur next year.

Posted by 72hrpartyanimal on Nov-19-2011 01:28:

i don't know any of those tracks (not very good with track names) but have to admit that Sasha has gone downhill for me.

and my wife and I are HUGE Sasha fans.

He needs to take a chill out and get back in the studio as he did for the Involver album.

Posted by Cool1g on Nov-19-2011 01:36:

Billy I haven't listen to the CD posted in this thread yet... but I understand that he did a lot more production on it than a regular mix... kinda like he did on the Involver CDs...

is he quite the draw he used to be... maybe not... though i wouldn't really say playing Sutra says a lot about that.... he was in town for Avalon so picked up another booking.... why not?

i always try and download mixes by Sasha (preferably live mixes) and lately, I haven't heard any that I've enjoyed.

will have to wait till i get home to hear this one.

i like his Jan Ruby Skye set.... really deep and dark stuff. Didn't quite feel his set in Miami that sunday night... only caught the end of his Avalon set the other night which i liked... everyone there seemed to have good things to say about it.

his 2010 EDC set was pretty epic... i think you agree about that one...

I kinda feel the same way. HUGE OG SASHA FAN, but sadly I haven't heard anything from him lately that will blow me away. I'm waiting to hear him live in January so opefully he'll redeem himself.

1) Sadly, the new generation of clubbers aren't into that deep dark sound. They all want SHM, Guetta, Avicci. So yes, as us older folks cut down on going out, that sector of the scene will suffer too. That's evident with a lot of older DJ's. One that really surprised me was Sven Vath. We waited YEARS for him to come to LA and when he finally did, bam! It's wasn't anywhere near sold out.

2) I've seen Sasha play at very intimate venues here in LA. So I wouldn't exactly call it reducing him self. After all, it was a Giant gig and I applaud them for bringing him to the OC.

All the "cool kids" are basically playing 120bpm prog house these days, so it's not surprising that sasha would be playing the same stuff. I don't think its much of a deviation stylistically from something like Involver.

Edit: and yeah I skipped sasha the last time he came to SF. Tix were too expensive and I had other options that weekend.

okay... this mix aint bad. probably a little commercial since it's for mixmag but I'm diggin it.

could be the good herbals too

That's right he had never played sutra because he had never played avalon or ruby skye before either...
If he had played avalon or ruby skye before, he would have "picked up another booking" (at sutra) since he would have been in town.

I seriously doubt that.

He's definitely trying to reinvent himself at the moment. Have you heard that long set from Berghain (which in itself is weird...Sasha has never ever been a Berghain kind of DJ)? It was all Crosstown Rebels, Hot Creations, Rebellion, Tale Of Us housey house stuff. And here he is playing Todd Terje and Soul Clap.

My point exactly

Posted by bas on Nov-19-2011 15:08:

Also, I caught him for a bit on Halloween and he was playing TOTALLY different than he has over the past few years. He wants to be a cool kid again.

cool in a good way or fake?

In a good way

Posted by civicstyle on Nov-19-2011 17:08:

Saw Sasha at the It's All Gone Pete Tong party at Pacha back in September in Ibiza and Sasha was playing all housey, nowhere near what he used to spin from the previous times I've seen him. Maybe it was cause Tong was going on after him or just to please the crowd but it was different...

The "rebel crew" aka damian lazarus, seth troxler, et al. There was an awful lot of it at BM.

They even admit it. See this interview with bill patrick:

quote:
We play progressive house. We make a ? with our hands to signal when to play a prog track. This happened one day when we were playing and I turned to him and was like is this prog? So now we just use hand signals to communicate. Its glorious. When we play together its always fire.

Posted by La Galera on Nov-20-2011 02:18:

Good mix but I would have never guessed it was Sasha.

Posted by david.sound on Nov-20-2011 02:32:

Producers/DJs always go through that down phase. He'll get back up there again. His name alone gets us staying semi-interested. We have the internet to explore and find different sound to fill the void. But then we'll always have Sasha to turn to when in need of something familiar.

P.S. I didn't think the mix was bad at all.

Hi Bas.

Fuck the cool kid music. Sasha needs to go back to his late 90's early 00's dark, banging progressive persona.

I want this Sasha-

new bald hipster Sasha is not as awesome
