Leaving for Orlando

Can anyone mention things to do other than going in theme parks? What's the culture there. Any culinary specialty? And which theme park would be worth it. Are the ghetto worth a visit also? Gotta know if it can be worst than Montreal-Nord.

People call all soda 'coke' in Florida. It's weird you can order a coke and they'll ask you what kind.

Vanilla, obviously...

People used to say this about where I'm from (Atlanta), and frankly I've never once heard it. I grew up in Georgia, with many vacations in Florida, and the only thing even remotely similar is them asking "regular or diet?" when you order a Coke.

I've never once heard anyone say "I'm going to the store to buy Coke", and then come back with Sprite and Mountain Dew. People just say the name of the drink.

As for Orlando, check out Universal Islands of Adventure. That place rocks.

"Coke" as a general term for soft drink is huge in Texas.

The only generalization like that I noticed back home was calling all soda machines "Coke machines". I don't recall ever hearing someone say "I'm gonna buy a Coke" and come back with a Fanta or something. I always said "soda", or the name of the drink, as did my friends and family.

The whole "I'd like a Coke", "What kind?", "Sprite please" is something I've never heard in my life.

I'll be sure to buy vanilla coke upon arrival. Gonna stop by Universal Studio too, sounds like uber dooper.

Universal is ok, but Islands of Adventure is WAAAY better. (Well, if you like roller coasters). You can get a pass to go to both, but honestly I'd rather just spend all the time at Islands.

Must-rides at Islands:
The Hulk
Jurassic Park
Dueling Dragons (I think this has been converted to the Harry Potter theme, but should still be awesome)
Spider-Man 3D

The Poseidon's Fury show is fantastic, also. It's corny, sure, but a lot of the little effects they do are cool.

I turned down a job because it'd involve moving to Orlando.

Posted by Ygrene on Nov-21-2011 12:25:

Definitely check out a Magic game if you have time.

I live in Orlando.

Let me know when you need some drugs.

I lived in Orlando for a few months. Dont go it is like purgatory. If you want to get laid, go to an ale house on ladies night on Wednesdays. They are generally hideous, but oh so easy. Eat at Tijuana Flats, it is the only thing I miss from the shittiest place I've ever been to.

The 3 other people I know that they offered it to after me also turned it down because it involved moving to Florida. Unless you are from Florida, who the fuck would move there out of free will?

Somebody who wants to be self sufficient and live on their own instead of in their parents' basement?

I'd take that, hell I'd take braving the cold streets during winter in Seattle over moving to Florida. That place is hell on earth.

Posted by srussell0018 on Nov-21-2011 19:10:

So why don't you get a job and live in Seattle then? All you do is complain and criticize other places. It honestly seems like you're just scared of actually have adult responsibilities.
