So it's been a long time since I posted a prog mix on TA... over two years now. Once I was known as the progressive house guy around here, but I got really burned out on the sound - I couldn't discover any new things that gave me that buzz and I couldn't find anything new to do with the sound. Those issues still exist, but I still love the sound when it's executed well. So nothing new here, just a selection of tracks old and new by some of my very favourite artists, hopefully interesting enough to stand out from the crowd.

I do like the 16BL's a lot, and I've played their tracks on several previous mixes. I guess this Davi mix is more towards the prog you'd play, but I heard it out and it sounded massive on a decent soundsystem. It has a lot of low end momentum that so much prog lacks, and I'd like to think it makes sense in the place I used it.

I know negative comments are tough pills to swallow. all I'm saying is that I didn't like the mix, nothing personal. users have posted this type of prog countless times, some even better. unfortunately, they don't get the attention that your mixes get. you were making your best mixes with those epic house and early progressive house mixes.

And as time drifts further and further away from the 90's we all know how depressed you continue to get.

Yes, your own reactions to criticisms have been quite spectacular.

Another great mix as I have come to expect. Not flawless technically but as usual the music is superb - beautiful melodies and atmosphere, and lots of tracks for me to go and buy for my sets!

One of the great things here is the diversity of music, which is one of the best things about progressivemusic - you can go all over the place and keep the flow going. I loved the way it built up from the almost ambient tunes as the start, through to prog breaks and then through to some 'proper' club music with hypnotic duo and 16BL (I've always played themoshic remix before but absolutely loved this version!)

In terms of things I was less impressed with, the mixing wasn't as smooth as it could have been again, although there was certainly nothing offensive. also , I don't reckon the first 3 tunes were the right thing to open with really, because they are all so different from oneanother. This is the only section of the mix that doesn't flow that well, and I always think the opening is the most important part. Fair play for including a dnb tune - I wouldn't have known how to use it with prog, but I personally thought it would have been better placed at the end

I think the Deep Space Organisms track is the thing at the start - I really love DSO and have wanted to play some of their stuff for ages, but their tracks are so idiosyncratic it's almost impossible to put them into a mix. If you play a DSO track, it's always going to be different to everything around it, and this remix was on Bedrock and is probably their most conventional track ever. Playing those semi-experimental ASC and DSO tunes at the start was the only way I could live with putting out another otherwise standard prog set, and if it comes at the concession of perfect flow, I'll live with it.

Not sure what your technical issues are, though.

Yea fair play - it's clear you really wanted to play that tune, and like I said, it was a very clever way to get it in there. The mix out of it is good, but the fact that you change bpm rapidly in the first transition and then change from breaks to a standard 4x4 beat in next one just makes the flow a little uneaven at the start there. If the mix had continued to shift genres in that way aferwards it would have been great actually! But as you concede, its a standard (but excellent) prog mix afterwards, so it just feels like the intro that doesn't 100% match. Just my opinion of course

Do you know what, on second listen there is only one remotely rough transition. It's the one at around 30.00 and its not that bad at all. I think it just stood out on first listen because I was really getting captivated by the mix and it snapped me out of it a bit when the beats phase. Oh, I would never say this stuff is hard to mix. Prog, or at least this modern stuff, has grown up in a culture of the long blend, so it's designed for easy mixes. If I fuck up on a prog mix, it's my own fault.

The fact that you have to do long mixes to make it interesting makes it 'harder' to mix. Its not a piece of piss like electro (but then why would you be playing that?) I think it can be tricky going in and out of prog-breaks
