Skrillex Receives a Grammy Nomination for Best New Artist

http://www.grammy.com/nominees

The world has officially come to an end....

Well, see ya dubstep, it was nice knowing ya! Between this and Justin Bieber saying he's going to use it on his next album, I think it's safe to say this is a fad and we all know what happens to fads.

I just hope the good, darker UK dubstep survives.

Posted by Kam on Dec-01-2011 09:03:

like it or not, thats an accomplishment no other Electronic dj/producer has done before or will ever be able to do.

The odds were COMPLETELY stacked up against him and he did this. I mean, he's primarily a dubstep producer (which still isn't even close to overall popularity in the US compared to progressive or electro house) and he never made a single vocal track (as compared to guetta/afrojack/calvin harris) that got played on pop radio.

I hope he wins.

Big ups Skrillex!

What about Deadmau5 being nominated for a Grammy in 2009?
Are you saying he is the only EDM artist to be nominated for Best New Artist?

When will his fans admit that he is just riding whatever wagon is popular atm?

Emo was cool, so he did that, now EDM is cool, so he is doing this... What is next?

Posted by ShweetuH on Dec-01-2011 17:40:

tiesto still tops everything in EDM due to the fact Traffic was #1 on Billboard. The only non-vocal track to do so... but that was when billboard mattered.

I don't care for his music. But huge props to the guy for getting nominations in a field of pop artists

The

Uhh wrong. Alot of edm artist have been nominated. Wasnt roni size nominated back in the day with his drum and bass sound? And Many more will in the future I'm sure.

I actually like some dub step. Skrillex has been able to carve out his own sounds which is admirable. Gotta give him props for his fast rise to the top of the genre while maintaining an addiction to meth. That's not easy

Who cares about the Grammy's?

I guess it's the same with the Oscars. Such a big deal for industry-folk and fun to watch on TV, but if that's not what you're into then who cares?? I don't think many/any of my top 10 movies of the year will be getting any serious oscar nods this year. Doesn't bother me. It's lame when they do and stand no chance though. Like last year all of the nominations for Winter's Bone leading to nothing. What a disappointment haha.

That's not completely true and it sounds like you've been brainwashed. The Chemical Brothers won a Grammy back when the electronic dance category didn't even exist. Plus we can't forget the major successes that people like Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, New Order, and Depeche Mode had early on.

Eric Kupper has two grammy's. Low End Specialists, have been nominated a few times. Jay Jay has won too as far as I remember.

There have been tons of Grammy nominated EDM Djs.

haha. well played.

Not gonna lie, but the highest achievement for an EDM artist was probably when Tiesto was invited to play a DJ set during the opening ceremony for the 2004 Olympics in Athens. Only because it's such a rare occasion and it was televised simultaneously all around the world. Not a fan of his music but that just makes anyone go "wow"

+1.

I was gonna mention that. Millions tuned in around the world simultanously. Doesnt get an larger than that for any musical artist really, many of those millions probably never even heard of a grammy

Posted by Quazar on Dec-03-2011 00:21:

The Grammys gained a lot of credibility last year by selecting Arcade Fire's "The Suburbs" for album of the year, but this year's list of nominees is very "meh".

Posted by chimera66 on Dec-03-2011 01:52:

i'm sure kam meant in the best new artist category. i think dubstep is garbage, but he's right that's a big accomplishment...although last year esperanza spalding won and I still don't know who she is nor do I really care.

Posted by Kam on Dec-04-2011 00:22:

to clarify, i meant to say no other electronic artist has been nominated for best new artist or ever will.

Since the thread topic is "skrillex receives grammy nomination for best new artist" i assumed you would get that.

Ever? That's insane, if anything it will happen more often.
