photek - glamourama [solaris

hey, could anyone recommend some similair track to this one, i peeled this off a really nice album from 2000, which i like a lot. its a very deep tech, garagy type of track, that sounds kind of triggered and has atmosphere in some ways. let me know, its one of my favorite house tracks

Posted by Adam420 on Dec-01-2011 20:29:

Fuck that's a great track man. I'll try to think of some similar ones for sure.

edit:

how's this one?

Posted by MSZ on Dec-01-2011 20:46:

thats a cool track, and carries some of the elements i was describing but, i need something that will really absorb a groove at the same time. maybe its a very tall order, but im hoping someone could come through.

Posted by ripped on Dec-01-2011 20:47:

yeah, Photek had totally outdone himself on that album

Posted by ripped on Dec-01-2011 20:48:

what about this one

Posted by Adam420 on Dec-01-2011 20:52:

Well the Photek track is comfortably in deep house territory in terms of BPM (120). Is this important in this case as well?

Posted by MSZ on Dec-01-2011 21:12:

if you dont mind, i would like to skip on that question adam. am i looking for something deep?, yes. the track is there, not sure what else to say in addition to my description. i guess its not so much important is what im meaning to say, maybe there could be some deep garagy techno that could be similar im not really sure to be honest with you.

thats a dope track ripped, but i feel there isnt much specific continuity between the two.

anyway feel free to go on, ill chime in in a while, or later on. no harm, least that can happen are some cool tracks being shared.

Just goes to show how much Photek polarised the crowd with Solaris. I've seen so many people absolutely tear it to shreds, calling it utterly dull, lazy and regressive.

I need to dig this out again, as I didn't have the patience for it when it came out, being fully immersed in the old Full Cycle-sound at the time.

score. its a bit fast, but i can change that. i guess something like deep house / techno + some hints of atmosphere would be what im looking for after all. bonus for a garagy feel with awesome groove. still, that photek track is wicked...

According to Last.fm I've played the whole album, but I have absolutely no memory whatsoever of how it sounds.

I actually have as well. Glamourama may be the only thing I remember off there.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Dec-02-2011 03:36:

This is quite worrying, actually. I have a good memory, and I have never, to my knowledge, totally forgotten that I've even heard an album, let alone all impressions of how it sounded. I must have listened to it within the last year, as well.

Lay off the weed, my brotha..

probably just left your media player running overnight or while you were away from the comp

Haven't heard it but I have 3 of his albums from that era, all dnb, breaks etc. Minimalist/jazzy. The ones w Ni ten ichi ryu or unidentified flying object etc.

You probably smoke more in a week than I have in a year. Like I said, I've got an exceptional memory and I don't want to fuck that up.

EDIT: I still have no memory of any of this, but I've now relistened to a few tracks and think I've probably forgotten about this album because it's really, really boring. I think Photek must be one of those acts I just don't get, along with fellow supposedly groundbreaking junglists 4 Hero.

I am offended. What is your basis for this accusation?!

ok, good then
I'm posting another one from Mark Henning and I'd also like to recommend you to dig the whole Jupiter Jive album of his, which is actually pretty amazing all around

and for those of you who consider Photek's productions bland and unmemorable just listen to this first track of Solaris

Posted by MSZ on Dec-02-2011 09:34:

there is some awesome quality on that album, and photek is a beast.

his best track though for me, comes from an EP, i dont think any of you will say this track is bad, its really amazing and one of my top tracks spanning genres.
