Cinema ticket price in your area

Something just hit me some time ago. In Europe, there's a major difference in price at the movie theaters, depending on the country. In Scandinavia, the price for a regular movie (A Dangerous Method, as an example) is about 14.86$ while in Eastern Europe, the same movie is about 4.31$. With this, I might add that the cinemas in Eastern Europe are far more elegant and comfortable than the ones in Scandinavia, from my personal experience.

So, how much does a ticket cost in your area? Would be interesting to know.

11. So about 20 cents.

Posted by LAdazeNYnights on Dec-10-2011 23:27:

$11.50 - $16 bucks
more for 3d, etc.

Posted by Banora on Dec-10-2011 23:36:

$12 in Kentucky/Indiana area.

Average price is probably around $11, 3D is around $15. Depends on the time you go, though, and the theatre. Could be a bit more, could be a lot less.

$9.50 here for 2D. Another buck for the third dimension.

manhattan, nyc - roughly 13 bux for a regular, 3D is around 17...if i remember correctly

$10 - $12, somewhere in the American south.

17 dollars in the cinema next to my house, 8.50 if you're a student. That's about average here in Brasília.

Bloody hell, I had no idea it was so much more expensive compared to the rest of the world. It's not like we're loaded or something...

$10.50

Depends 'which' cinemas. The smaller, independent ones are about $13, the bigger multiplex ones around $16-18 and premium $32

I spend a fair amount on some solid tranqs so usually more than a good $50. Drop out.

more like around 6 dollars + for 3d, and avarage salary for scandinavia is probably 4x the avarge salary in eastern europe, so it's kind of retarded to compare the two

Posted by r5a on Dec-11-2011 06:27:

12.50

Posted by Sushipunk on Dec-11-2011 06:57:

Depends on which cinema I go to.

There's an independent group here in Brisbane, if I go in the day on a weekday, it's only $7 or something. At night/weekends, it's about $10 I think. And they're awesome.

At the big chain cinemas, it's $16+ for a 2D film, $19+ for 3D, so I never bother with them. Popcorn is fucking $10 or something too - Much cheaper (like half the price) at the independent places.

13.50 Evening hours.
$17 for IMAX/3D stuff.

6-7 for Early morning showings.

Ironically, Eastern Europeans got much more money than Scandinavians. Only that it doesn't show anywhere.

I've never studied economics and while I'm well aware of that fact, why is it so? Just because someone makes more money, they should be charged more for the same service? Why isn't an iPhone 200 in Eastern Europe and 600 in Scandinavia?

Taxes, that contribute to medical/welfare/heaps of other [quality of life] stuff.

Same reason a six pack of Heineken costs me $15+ here, but only $8 in the USA. Ask me how much a pack of cigs costs here, lol.

Edit: With mobile phones, there's even more to it. High set-up costs with only a minimal amount of people paying for the service, due to a small population (same as Australia).

All of this doesn't apply to cinema-tickets? Seems a bit weird.

It has nothing to do with "should." Local businesses charge as much as their target market will bear. If your target market is wealthier, you can charge more because those people will keep buying even at a higher price.
