Back when I bought Logic it cost $1000! A very smart thing they did dropping the price.
but i liked the whole box thing
wow
E: wrong thread.
any ideas if they are gonna reduce the price on the upgrade from logic 8, or does this mean logic 10 is gonna come out any time now?
1000 for a software is ridiculous specially when there are so much good producers using Fl studio and not so pro daws, or even burial using old fashioned stuff
im never buying software again. i feel tricked...

Logic 10 ahoy!
Knowing Apple this is probably whats going to happen:
Logic is now signifacntly cheaper so everyone will want to get their hands on it, some might even go buy macs just to own it. Meanwhile, Apple is probably holding back significant changes in Logic 10 that will make the majority of people WANT to pay the hefty upgrade price to get 10. which will most likely cost more overall than buying Logic 10 by its lonesome.
This is why i dont deal with Apple. they like to make people think they're getting a deal, then fuck people over.
Oh please that is just common business practice, every company in the world does the same thing

Buying the full version just before a major update step works out cheaper than buying the full retail version. It's a way of shifting the last remaining stock, and getting you to part with some money for the new version so they're take a little bit of a hit against the full new retail price as they know they won't be left with worthless stock after the new one comes out. Secondly, 10, if the rumors are true, is going to be cheaper than previous incarnations at launch as it looks like it will not be a "boxed" or physical product. I wouldn't be surprised if they price it below $350 and even offer a cut down version for less than $300. Yes, apple's business model is to sell software at break even or even loss leader price because you have to use their hardware. So what? Better than paying $500 for cubase whether you're on a PC or Mac. My imac was wicked value, and the DAW that was made for it cheaper than most other platforms. Win/Win. Apple makes fuck all (comparatively) from ipods, but you don't see 300 million ipod owners complaining that they are forced to use apple hardware to get access to intunes. |
logic 11 is on its way
they have people called marketing experts
They can look at recent sales, they know how often things are cracked, and work out a number that makes them the most profit.
They don't just pick out random numbers. Same with waves. It isn't random. It is careful smart pricing to maximize sales, and cultivating customers. Software companies are starting to think like cable companies. Once you pick one, you stick with it your entire life. Ie waves. People that buy 1 waves , will buy another, then another.
In fact if waves were to release 64 bit today, UAD, out of business. Why UAD doesn't see this threat is beyond me.
Daws are especially like cable companies. People stick with their DAW. It is a big decision to switch. DAWs have benifited from piracy. When cubase introduced that version that could not be cracked, an entire group of people used to using it but had a crack well had to poney up. So in the long run, it is profitable alone just to get people to use your product what ever means necessary.
