Vocal isolation

I am trying to isolate the girl background vocals on Paul Hardcastle's "19". Generally you're supposed to use the same passage but with just instrumentals to phase cancel the vocals. The only thing I have to work with is an instrumental passage from LATER in the song. It didn't seem to work at all. I'm not sure if I was even doing it right. Maybe there's a freeware out there?

Isolating. Not removing. I found some two free software that do this. One didn't work well at all. The other did an OK job of it but the end result is not that great. It loses a lot of it's fullness, and leaves a "phasing sound".

This is why most producers get clearance for acapellas or belong to sites that distribute them.
