The creative**** thread

I have noticed I'm not alone when it comes to a creative block lately, at least that is my perception. As this is a music production forum I've been thinking about a thread that will make people actually produce some music instead of just talking shit and flaming each other.

This is what I've come up with. Make a track that is no longer than 8 bars (nobody will kill you if it gets a little bit longer but keep it short). The only synth that is allowed is Synth1 and you have to make every preset from scratch. Even if you have presets that you've made yourself, don't use em, get creative.

Use as few sounds as possible and don't try to make anything to advanced or fancy, just make the fucking track. The only samples allowed is drum samples (and exported tracks from the song itself). Lets keep it oldschool and don't use any effects except those built in Synth1.

I have already begun, and I promise you, the song will suck big time, but that doesn't matter. I want to see what I can come up with under those minimal circumstances and if nothing else maybe I at least can make someone laugh at me.

If you think this is a bad idea, shut up and let the thread die, if you like it then show us what you got.

Synth1 is the bomb diggity. Use it in pretty much all my tracks.

Do you mean just an 8 bar loop. You keep saying a song so I just want to be clear

Pretty shitty but I gave it a shot. Everything is made with just Synth1. No drums samples.

I was thinking more of a song idea. Just lay down the basics and let everybody have a listen. Then maybe take it to the next level and throw out a arrangement.

The point of the thread is not to come here and make up rules for everyone, for me it will be just synth1 and a couple of drum samples (no compression, EQ or similar luxury ). If you rather use another synth then go ahead, but use a pretty simple one.

It's all about getting creative and having fun.

I agree to a certain point. It's not a good idea to force yourself to madness. But sometimes it's better to just get on with it than lie on the couch feeling sorry for yourself (as I have been doing for a while now).

Here is what I've done today, it is pretty horrible (and distorted) but I'm glad I did it. I had fun and I will def spend some more time with music in the coming days.

I have only used Synth1, no external effects.

Agree, although I don't use it with every track, it gets a lot more use than some synths I've paid good money for. Might see if I can can knock some sort of disaster together for this thread.

I did not use synth1. I used my trip out to zoo as inspiration.

Maybe if we drive ourselves really hard, we can reach a state of pure mediocrity and then become famous for it.

so far there's some pretty wierd tracks in this thread.. lol.. we should put a BPM restriction on it though.. either 119, 118, or 117 BPM only.. Then we'll see what happens =) Last time I made a 119 BPM my entire world changed..
