-- Filter anyone?

Filter anyone?

Anyone with a good advice re: AU filter plugins? I have Quad Frohmage and I love it, but sometimes it's always worth checking out elsewhere what's on offer. Wouldn't say no to Sugarbytes' Wow, but the filter in Effectrix is disappointing so that scares me a bit.

Thanks a bunch.

Fabfilter Volcano 2 should provoke one of those '/thread' thingies

Yea pretty much, Volcano 2 can do anything you want really. Good price and a great company too.

I purchased fab filter volcano 2 a few months ago but didnt start using it until a few days ago, I now know the difference between an average filter and a good one. Its sounds great, really smooth and loads of options, im so glad I bought it. I recommend it.

cheers,

Fabfilter Volcano.

Sounding like a broken record in here.

This is better than volcano, IMO.

Volcano2 and FilterFreak are my go-tos and I highly recommend either. Tone2 FilterBank3 and Veangeance Philta XL are both worth checkin out as well and have some very good modulation capabilities, but Philta does use a dongle, f that's an issue for you. I have WOW, but I wouldn't recommend it over any of these.

If you're looking for something simpler/cheaper and don't need a lot of modulation options, FabFilter Simplon is an excellent choice - same filters as those in Volcano2 packaged in a more basic plugin.

edit: btw, if you decide to buy a FabFilter product, let me know and I can save you 10% with their refer-a-friend program (although I think it only works for new customers).

Tone2 Filterbank 3 comes to mind, but if you are looking for a simple, yet awesome filter for a quick job, check out the Sonalksis TBK. I love it.

...and I was always sure that I heard a Volcano filter in recent Airwave-Productions

...like the other before: Volcano does always a great job.

I'm probably going to get Volcano along with the Pro bundle when I have the money for it.

I think Cytomic have a new one coming out, could be worth checking but no idea if its gonna be in AU format.....

Volcano 2 is really nice

some of those Audio Damage plugins are really neat

Posted by Lolo on Jan-09-2012 20:07:

thanks for all your concrete answers. I'll have a look at volcano as soon as I can!

I have Fab Filter(s)

Most of them look kinda Mickey Mouse-ish. Like wth, couldn't they have created a better UI but for the most part I like them. I'm still trying to figure out which one's do which, like: Micro, One, Pro-C, Pro-G, Pro-L, Pro-Q, Simplon, Timeless 2, Twin 2, and Volcano. Some seem like their better for FX while others are indepedent synths, (which I will never use). But Overall, I've heard great things about them, and that they're must have's for any producer, so I got them.

I still like to have a room designer plug-in for reverb. I'm looking for one of those hi-quality one's now.

What the hell man? Fabfilter does some of the best VST design of any company.

Posted by meriter on Jan-09-2012 20:51:

usually i agree with the exact opposite of what DJ Ryan says

I didn't say I didn't like them. My favorite so far is Pro-Q. But Simplon and Micro's UI just looks too basic and I'm a guy that likes an awesome UI.

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jan-09-2012 20:57:

simplon and micro were meant to be easy. They are dumbed down version of the products they sell. Ie twin and volcano.

their GUI's are really top notch.

Posted by DJRYAN on Jan-09-2012 21:01:

yea maybe so but I've had them for a very short time so understanding their application is somewhat limited. All I know is that Pro-Q has the type of interface I like and the couple of times I used it helped me acheive the desired effect.

I'll probably be screaming like the rest of you are about how good all of their products are in no time. =)

Posted by Looney4Clooney on Jan-09-2012 21:13:

there is a reason.

good products.
good gui
64 bit
Pretty much set some standards as to what a product would need ie ms processing,

it isn't hype.

Posted by tehlord on Jan-09-2012 21:17:

I don't really dig the Fabfilter GUI but apart from Twin2 they're pretty much my goto's for most things. ProQ is a plugin of sublime beauty.
