Cubase Midi question

Hi im new to this forum i was looking at a video with steve from the thrillseekers and i was hoping some one could help me out, at 3.15 in the video you can see the midi have black lines going through them any ideas for why this is?

They're just breaks between midi clips.

thanks for the reply, im not to sure the lines i was on about look like some sort of automation going up and down on the pink and orange midi tracks at 3.15 in the clip, cant seem to get that with cubase myself

That's modulation data. If you record modwheel changes during a performance you'll see that, or alternatively if you draw in pitchbend. controller or any other kind of data at the bottom of an open midi clip you'll see that too.
