It seems pretty cool, though I would only use it for the recording purposes in my setup. I find that CDs are much cheaper and a much better medium to serve as a demo/give-away item because everyone has access to a cd player, though not many to a md player. The price that I found was around $550 from djgear.com. I wouldn't spend that much for just a recorder and I find that if I'm going to spend that much money to play md, then I better already have a huge MD collection to utilize. The record function is increadible though because now you can implement a device into your system that allows for realtime recording without having to drag along a computer with you or buying very expensive DAT equipment. If it comes down to about $250 in price, I'd think about getting it.
hehe... well.. i do already have a buttload of MD's, and other MD equiptment.
it's small, portable, and has all the features i need. it's purrrfect to take to a gig. smaller than my CD deck, and minidiscs wont get scratched and tend to be less skip prone than CDs.
CD's have always turned into a damn nightmare for me. either they skip, get scratched/damaged, or the deck in question wont read them because they are burned discs. I'm just frustrated and pissed off at CDs, my experience has proven they are failure prone and very easy to damage.
and the real-time recording, is another reason I'd like it. I can record whatever samples i feel like, and play them back into the mix with pitch control. badass!
i'd stick with vinyl, which i mostly do, but I need something I can record to and play back with pitch control.. and a vinyl cutter is way far out of the question!
