Dog Running Tidy up the TL Section ?

OK so you go in the TL section you type "van Dyk" in the search and you get loads of pages come up only way to find the correct stuff is by trawling through it all (which i have done before and it takes about an hour sometimes to find the right one). It's not just PvD stuff that would come up either :S

I suggest we have sub-sections in the TL Forum, for example actual sections for all the PvD TL's, all the Oakey TL's, all the Tiesto TL's and so on for all the bigger named DJ's which have livesets broadcasted on a regular basis. When you post up a TL or a TL request you would have to post it in the correct section, if not the mods can move it (which takes 2 secs).

In addition to the above we could have subsections for the larger events like Mayday, Loveparade Mysteryland and so on. This would help to keep the TL section more tidier and in the long run would be much better to use.

The big problem with doing this is moving all the threads that are in there to the correct section if this was to go ahead, I would help do this (I'm sure someone else would help too?. I reckon TA's TL section is the best place on the net to get TL's atm, so lets make it even better

I hope what i typed explaint what I mean, if not give me a shout and I'll try to explain it better

Anyone else think this could work or will I go sit in the corner?

That's quite a good idea... however, we've got to watch out not to over-create forums. How many would we need?

Posted by jdat on Aug-29-2002 16:17:

wtf?

are you nuts?

out of your mind??

it's a "good" idea ... but imagine all the time and extra things involved just to do that ...

it's not gonna happen!

Posted by Technaut on Aug-29-2002 16:31:

Yeah it would take time (im not saying its gonna happen overnight)

The amount of time depends on how many people are willing to help, good for the long run I reckon.

That would be (almost) trivial to implement on a basic scale.

When my never-ending-dream of having TA act the way it should is ever done then this will be a reality, but until then ya gotta be patient.

Just maintaining the site eats all my time, I can't find much time to work on new stuff which REALLY sucks, cuz the ideas I've had in my head have been there for almost 1.5 years and they're still as original as they were 1.5 years ago since nobody has done it yet.

One day... soon.. I hope.. it will all be a reality lol

(the barebones are in the works)

technaut,

i have to agree with you on this one. the idea hit me when the paul oakenfold EM99 post got started. i thought to myself... self why shouldn't all the artist be in some kind of list. i think that there should be a link for each artist, then inside that link people can post about the new sets etc, but the main thing would be that at the top of the page there would be kinda a master archive with all the sets in order by date with the known tracklists. it would only be used for storing the tracklists and any updates would be posted in other threads. i would definitely be able to help because i'm actually planning on doing it myself for all of my sets hehe. i'm taking it one artist at a time so i'm starting with oakenfold since everyone has already done such a great job on that.

that brings me to something else... i think that there should be some kind of tracklist format that everyone should follow. meaning that the posts all are numbered (times when available) and titles of songs spaced correctly. i don't know maybe i'm being kind of a nazi, but i think it's easier for everyone in the long run like you said. technaut your a smart man hehe.

oh and if i ever get a great list of tracklists completed and formated i'll let you guys know hehe... it does take a ton of time, but what else am i going to do at work hehe.

good idea to do this. Like hav a sub-section for the more frequently asked DJ tracklists. But i'd like to further this suggestion. Like having a format so when people search it makes it easier to get results. ie. Instead of 01_paul_van_dyk-live_at_nature_one_2002-sat-08-03-2002 hav Paul Van Dyk - Live At Nature One 2002. U get what im saying?

and........ one example that springs to mind is if someone wants to search for the gkgg archive by typing in "gkgg" wont work since the thread is called global gathering archive. My point is it may take a few tries in the search box. So if someone was able to tidying up the name and maybe add a little summing extra to aid the search it would solve the problem of people posting the same thread due to a no-search find.

sorry i havnt really expressed what im trying to say very well im quite tired I suppose its finding the people willing to do this and taking the time to. I dunno maybe this is going to far. meh!!

wooooooooo

Great Idea, Tech, shame that Swamper says it aint happeneing for a while if at all, i suppose it wud take a lot of effort, but i'm sure it wud be worth it, i'd sure lend a hand!!!

maybee there could be a new naming convention such as

YYYYMMDD - some dj live at some event

and then if the forums display the results in either ascending or desending order then they will be in date order ( as long as they sort the posts in number order) and maybee simpler to find a certain tracklisting

only a idea feal free to flame if you fink it sucks!

actually jon,

i think that is a great way to order music. i fact that is the way that i have my own personal archive. as far as getting this done, why don't we post a message in the TL section asking people to list the sets that they have for different dj's then we can each take one and somehow come to a grand list of sets hehe. like i said i'm doing oakenfold right now, but after that i'm gonna do sasha sets.

another big challenge of making this archive would be first getting all of the sets by each dj. i mean i have a lot of sets but not all of them obviously hehe. because he would have to check each set for corrections.

thats it for now... i guess i'm doing this with or without help so if anyone wants to help let me know.

it's easier to find if you put the location of the set. like not just van dyk, but van dyk nature. that would bring up the van dyk nature one set, maybe not with priority but definitly easier to find. i never had problems with it.

and there are sites that have tracklists. just i guess the guy it's very busy cause it get updeted not very often.

i think that a lot of us know about dance paradise. i know i actually used to hangout there a lot. there are two problems with it though... you already mentioned one... he only updates sets that he can find easily like armin in state of trance. the second, more then half of them are basically wrong or incomplete. i've seen a lot of different tracklist sites in my journey to find that awesome track from a set and all i can say is that our site has the biggest volume of sets and also the most complete. it doesn't get any better then trance addict, now its just about making it as good as it can be.

note: i already think that the system is awesome, but just not the most organized like we have all been saying. swamper, i love you site man hehe.
