Mysteryland review - a Canadian perspective

Just got back from a 2 week adventure in Belgium & Holland and I have to say that any of you TAs that haven't been to the Netherlands should check it out at least once in your life.

I went to clubs in Rotterdam, den Haag, and Amsterdam but Mysteryland took the cake. Not only was the lineup out of this world but the organization involved with this huge party was really impressive. Security was laid back and water & food were obtained easily. The only thing I could complain about would be that it was 'too big' in that it was difficult to see all the djs I wanted to. I wasn't used to that since our parties max out at a few thousand.

As for the content, I saw a bit of Scott Bond and Gielen, Cosmic Gate (amazing), Dumonde (really impressed with them), Rank 1, AVB, Ferry Corsten, Olav Basoski, DJ Joop (a popular upcoming dutch dj who I never heard of before Mysteryland), West Bam, Marco V, DJ Astrid, and finished it off with Mauro Picotto who played an amazing set under the moonlight. I really only saw Dumonde's and Mauro Picotto's full sets but it was worth it. I spent a little bit of time in the UK Garage tent as well.

I was disappointed I didn't get to see Hennes & Cold, Anne Savage, Kai Tracid and Sven Vath but like I said, it was really hard to change tents all the time. The people I met there were pretty cool and actually suprised when I told them I was from Canada...even a few of them went out of their way to make sure I enjoyed myself. I only encounted one crackhead at the end of the night who basically collapsed and started rambling on about Muslims and penguins in jibberish. his friend picked him up so he was alright...

And the girls...models as far as the eye could see! I wish cameras were allowed!

By far the best party I've been to..

Yeah, you are absolutely right. It was GREAT FUCKING party!
I had a blast as well.

Hennes And Cold were amazing btw

Girls...
Imagine like 20 thousand hot girls.. Yep, that's Mysteryland

not quiet but close, I guess it more of like a meca for us. Every trancEaddict has got to make the pilgrimage to the holy land at least once in their lifetime! LOL! Funny but so true!

I wanna go to Mysteryland again as well!

Unforunately I cannot go next year, but if I'll still love Trance 2
years from now and Mysteryland will have plenty of Trance DJ's just like this year, I'll go for sure !

It's unlike anything you have witnessed before !

Posted by JHN416 on Aug-30-2002 16:59:

Yeah it was pretty crazy...I'd love to go again but I'd really like to go to Love Parade (as DJ Hordash said) or Sensation but you never know.

If you want to see some pictures go to

and click on Bekijk de Party fotos

Sensation is too commercial ! Wouldn't wanna go there !

We've met some people in Amsterdam who barely know who DJ Tiesto is, yet they went to Sensation cause they saw advertisement on TV !

Dude- what are you talking about?!?! ID&T is the production company that throws both Sensation & Mysteryland, as well as Trance Energy, Innnercity, and many more. They are a corporate machine! The Dutch have the market cornered on throwing huge parties. No corners are cut- they go all out. In fact, most large European parties will advertise on TV, radio, magazines, billboards, etc... When I was at Dance Valley, we looked up in the air & saw a plane flying above, with one of those banners trailing behind: "Mysteryland- 17/08/02" !!! Commercial? Yes. Do I care? NO!
If those people you met (who had no idea who Tiesto was) had told u they were going to Mysteryland instead of Sensation, would your opinion be any different?
If I had to choose only 1 party to attend the entire year, after seeing the photos from Sensation White, I would choose that one.

Posted by Durafei on Aug-31-2002 23:45:

Monkey Dancer 2

Photos don't mean anything. It looks good cause there are so many people in one place, but quality of people is different. I've talked to many people and they all say parties like Sensation and Trance Energy are not nearly as good as Mysteryland. Mysteryland is one of the oldest parties that ID&T has been throwing. A lot of old-school ravers still go to Mysteryland. True it's commercial as well, but less commercial than Sensation or Trance Energy.

I'm not saying Sensation sucks, but Mysteryland was so amazing in it's diversity that's I'd come back any day !

Posted by JHN416 on Sep-01-2002 18:35:

I agree with both of you.

All of these ID&T parties are commercial but that's what they're supposed to be. Durafei is right in that Mysteryland is one of the oldest parties ID&T have been throwing and that people that used to party back in the 80s and early 90s prefer Mysteryland over a lot of other big venues. Just compare the attendances of Sensation and Mysteryland...Sensation is 3 times bigger. Of course it's going to attract a broader range of dance-goers but in my opinion that's a good thing. It would be amazing to go to a party with 150 000 people just to experience it - but it might be a little too big for my taste!

If it worked out that I could go to Mysteryland again I would definitely go but for me, I want to check out as many big parties as I can before I get too old!
