Need help putting together a playlist around Chicane: Red Skies?

Hey guys,

I've been a Chicane fan for quite some time, though I just discovered (or re-discovered, perhaps...I know I'd heard it before) the track Red Skies from FFTMC (just bought the CD single off amazon.de, decent price fwiw) a few weeks ago (quite the hidden gem, too bad the single didn't get a wider release).

I'm trying to put together a nice playlist (around an hour long) with this song, though I'd also like to find some way to fit a mix of Out of the Blue in there along with Superstring (Rank 1) in there. As for length, I was aiming for an hour, though 90 minutes might work if there are too many tracks.

Any recommendations are welcome/appreciated!

Yeah, I'm not sure exactly what you meant by this? There are a few problems:

(1) I asked for track recommendations, not for a link to buy music. I'm asking for which songs to put in the playlist. If I don't have the songs, I will buy them.
(2) The link you posted explains how to use Beatport, yet mentions playlists not once. As a matter of fact, it states explicitly that Beatport is exactly the kind of site that will not give you track recommendations.
(3) This track is not listed Beatport as an individual track, its album release (FFTMC), or its single release.

That is to say, your link didn't do very much for me at all. My intention with posting was to inquire as to what other songs I should put in the playlist I'm putting together. If they're tracks I already have, then I'll throw them in and see how it sounds. If they're not, then whether it fits well, at least I discovered some cool new music, right?

BTW I'm not trying to be confrontational, I'm just frustrated that I spent a lot of time reading that thread, and trying to back-door search on Beatport in the event that this track was mislabeled. If there is a way to locate Red Skies on Beatport, please help me find it.

He means "Find your own music". It's your playlist. We don't know anything about your tastes. I personally think Out Of The Blue and Superstring would be terrible inclusions, unless your aim is to make Generic Late '90s Uplifting Anthems Playlist #1000 And Also Chicane's Red Skies, but that's just me.

Well, that's sort of the point...I'm trying to expand/discover my tastes. I mentioned that "I'd like" to fit those two songs in, though I guess I didn't imply that I've tried to do so and failed to get them to fit. Those are really just two songs that I like, then, I guess.

I suppose then I'm really just trying to find some tracks that sound relatively ambient at first (for the majority of the song), quickly escalate at some point, and return to subtlety. I'm not really sure how I'd search for that, though, so I'm just soliciting for some artists who have songs with progression like this, if that makes any sense.

You didn't really make that point clear. And can I just say that those artists are absolutely shocking examples of what you just described. To the extent I feel just about any trance record could fit the bill.

With that in mind, if you're looking to make a playlist of stuff that sounds like Chicane circa Far From The Maddening Crowds (a fantastic album, I must say), I recommend you explore the wonderful world of summery mid-90s progressive trance and house, which is basically one of my favourite styles. I'm not going to bog down the thread with Youtube embeds, but all the following links are clickable:

Atlantis Vs Avatar - Fiji
Blue Amazon - The Runner
BT - Nectar
Desert - Moods
Humate - 3.2 (Bedrock Remix)
Miro - Paradise (Red Jerry's Longdubbyvocal Mix)
Paul Van Dyk - Forbidden Fruit (Fruit Of Love Mix)
Salt Tank - Jeanie
Sven Vath - L'Esperanza (Paul Van Dyk Remix)
Tastexperience - Highlander
Tillman & Ries - Bass Fly (Moogwai Remix)
Way Out West - Domination (Mururoa Mix)

That's probably true, sorry for the confusion. It's getting very late at night, and I have a bunch of stuff I'm trying to do.

Anyhow, thanks for the recs! I have a handful of these tracks, and will check out the rest.

EDIT: BTW, I didn't mean they fit the bill of what I described. That's exactly the problem: since they're so different from Red Skies, I can't find anyway to fit them in the same playlist without it being a mishmash of songs that don't fit together.
