Simon Cowell to launch new X factor style reality show for DJ's
yeah.... not even joking....
The X Factor mogul Simon Cowell has announced that he will be launching a new TV talent show which aims "to find the world's greatest DJ's".
The show, which does not yet have a title, will operate in a similar manner to the X Factor, with DJ's battling it out to secure fame and fortune, reports Music Week.
Speaking about the project, Cowell described DJ's as "the new rock stars" and said that the show will capture the rise of "DJ phenomena". The show has been in development for over a year.
The show will be co-produced by Cowell's company SyCo and production group Overbrook, which is owned by actor Will Smith and his wife Jada Pinkett-Smith.
Simon Cowell said of the show: "We have been working on this show for over a year and we wanted to partner with the right people. As soon as I met Jada and Miguel from Overbrook, I knew they would be our ideal partners. DJ's are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show."
Jada Pinkett Smith said: "This show will comb the world to find a new breed of talent. I am happy to be creating it alongside Simon Cowell, the Sony team, and my partner Miguel Melendez, on behalf of the Overbrook family."
It is still unknown which UK and US TV networks will broadcast the show, with more details expected to be confirmed shortly.

what do you guys think??
"DJ's are the new rock stars, it feels like the right time to make this show."
I cannot wait to see what happens when a Skrillex iTunes DJ beats a hip hop DJ.
i honestly don't think the ratings will be great cause you know anybody over the age of 35 is just not gonna watch it, but i guess we'll see
This is prob gonna be more about turntablism/scratching rather than transitions/proper eq's/proper flow and build up.
Basically, another tv station/production are jumping on the EDM bandwagon.
I kind of want to do this LOL
Not the first time I heard of something like this, I was working with someone who was talking to RBMA for a sponsorship for the exact same project. The guy must be pissed, haha.
I'd watch it for the lulz.

can anybody name even 3 turntablists that are in the top 100 dj's ??? didnt think so, its probably gonna be based on more basic categories like mixing, flow, performance and crowd involvement....
you know whats gonna be funny/sad
there will probly be a good underground dj from nyc who plays pretty decent but probly wont win cause he dont throw in the latest guetta & usher song followed by a house remix to the new jay-z song

30 second dj playing radio music Vs turntabalism VS machines .. either way will be funny/awkward to watch
Or maybe they will do 90's style mixes with like 10 differnt songs in 10 mins lol?
I think if it's anything like American Idol, they'll prob be given challenges weekly, maybe a different genre with every challenge? It has the potential to be an awesome show with the history of the genre on each episode to introduce and educate the viewer to different sounds. I don't see this happening though, I'm sure it will all be garbage.

I could see some Ean Golden type stuff working, but the field would be soooo small and even then it would get boring pretty quickly, and I don't consider this good DJing as apposed to a music geekfest that 99% of viewers wouldn't get.

Im looking forward to trying out for this and show my skills to Simon. I am also anxious to hear his insults...
This is gonna end up 3 kinds of performances:
1) MPC based producers (Araab Muzik, Jeremy Ellis, etc)
2) Hip Hop style turntablists
3) Cutaways of people trainwrecking
That's if it even makes it past the pilot...
you giving TV viewers too much credit. after all the crapy tv shows out there this will probably last beyond the pilot
ummm Jamie Jones is on the panel
