Toronto Transit makes me sad
I keep thinking it's going to get better, it's going to get better. Then I read of all the proposed and failed projects from the last 50 years. The plan of this generation which was funded, and started, was stopped. Now the newest plan is being challenged.
WTF.
Is it time to leave Toronto?
Time to buy a car.
^^^^^ this. You would leave TO bc of the TTC?
Things are looking up though with the opposition to Ford's plans growing and the new release of the independent legal opinion today.
I would leave Toronto because it's Toronto.

In related news - TTC finally retired the last of their H4 subway cars from the 70s. The last one to retire gave TTC 35 years of service and was the oldest running subway car in North America.

Try taking the subway from kipling to old mill. It's the worst at the beginning and end of my trip to the downtown core.
Even the new subways I noticed today, doesn't seem to relieve the massive amounts of people on the yonge-university line. I had to wait 4 trains just to get to Yonge/Bloor.
Good thing I was patient today....

Time to move closer to work (if you can afford it).
Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if part of whats fueling the condo boom downtown right now is to be able to avoid commuting.

Getting around, whichever way you'd want to, is a nightmare in this city. What's the problem? I totally would. Lucky for me I work evenings so I avoid the morning and afternoon rush. |

Just wait to see what's in store for Scarberia - SRT goes end-of-life in 2015

| Its all about subways, Rob Ford tells City Hall scrum The power struggle over what transit to build in Toronto continues at City Hall, with Mayor Rob Ford telling reporters, at his weekly weigh-in: Its all about subways. An excerpt of the scrum follows. Reporter: Mr. Mayor, some people at 11 oclock are discussing the legal standard of scrapping Transit City and they are saying you may have overstepped your boundaries. What do you say? Mayor: I didnt overstep my boundaries, I did what the taxpayers want. They want subways, thats it. They dont want streetcars. I was out in Scarborough over the weekend, people came up to me and said, they want subways. Thats it. Reporter: Is there any wiggle room for you on this issue? Mayor: Its the taxpayers. The taxpayers wantI was elected on subways, they want subways, I was out on Saturday, people want subways. Thats it. Reporter: Do you think youll win this vote? It doesnt seem like you have the votes. Mayor: Its all subways. Its all about subways. Reporter: What are you going to do though if council votes against that? Mayor: All about subways. So, its the taxpayers that elected me to get the subways in and thats what were going to do. Reporter: So, you think that gives you authority to, if council votes against that. Mayor: Its like winning an election. So if they voted me in, that means [stutters a bit] I dont win an election? It doesnt make sense. |
Like Being John Malkovich, only with subways.
blame kotsy!
anyway, people who complain about the ttc who then get told to buy a car always responds with "have you seen rush hour traffic?"
im pretty sure public transit gets affected by rush hour traffic as well. also, if you own a car you can do things on your own schedule. forget about worrying when the bus or subway stops working for the night.
and youcan travel directly to your destination! omg what a great idea!

remix time!
Even though i drive, I def support Rob Ford on subways. Plan to build streetcars in Toronto was a shame and a big fail in the first place for a city of such size, concentration and economic clout. One of the usual TTC's band-aid solutions not abit concerned with future of this city. Streetcars is a short term fix that will create more problems in the long run. Capacity wise, street congestion wise, future development of economic activity etc. Subway is a more forward looking solution, that will create higher growth potential in the areas it is built and promote long term development.
I dunno if I'm completely sold on the idea of subways being everywhere. Just seems like a big black hole for money.
