Anybody using Wavelab Elements 7?
I want a simpler and cheaper alternative to Sound Forge for quick audio editing/mastering jobs that also is a 64-bit app (I'm sick of waiting for Sony to get their asses in gear). Unfortunately, there is no demo for Elements 7 (demo is for full version of Wavelab only) and I'm wondering how flexible the UI is in terms of creating your own layouts, dual-monitor support, etc. I don't see any of this mentioned on the website. Also, does Elements have the Soundcloud uploading capability that the full version has as of the most recent 7.2 release?
if you need a freeware sound recorder this app will do the job http://www.wavosaur.com/

bias peak?
nvm mac only i guess
No, seriously guys, I am very familiar with all the wav editor options out there and I'm not looking for other suggestions. I have very specific reasons for considering Wavelab and just want to know if Wavelab Elements 7 lets me customize layouts, make full use of my two monitors, etc.
Have you tried Audacity?

for 99$ i think it is good. Tried it once having wavelab full and did not notice any features at that given time that were not there but it was just basic editing.

| Is it true 64 bit? Sound Forge Pro 10 does support installation on a 64-bit operating system like Windows Vista or Windows 7 64-bit, however it is a 32-bit application and will function in 32-bit mode. Any plans to release a 64 bit version of Sound Forge? At this time, Sound Forge Pro is supported within 64-bit operating systems and will function as a 32-bit application in a 64-bit environment. However, we have not announced any plans regarding Sound Forge Pro becoming a 64-bit native application. |
I'm sure you've all been on pins and needles wondering what my final decision was. I found a guy on KVR who was looking to trade his full version of Wavelab 7 for my Sound Forge 10, so the deal has been done and Wavelab is now happily residing on my computer once again. I love a happy ending. Oh, and this spectral editor is so kickass! I'm glad I didn't settle for the Elements version.
Out of interest what can you do in a standalone editor that can't be accomplished just as easily (and arguably more conveniently) in DAW?

Bugger, this is my problem, but at least on PC you have a choice of several good wave editors.
That's the one thing I've been missing all this time, since I switched to mac; wavelab.
Bias Peak is buggy as shit, audacity is fairly buggy and the interface/workflow is horrid, and dsp quattro just doesn't have the advanced functions when you really want to get surgical/deep in editing. Cooledit/Adobe Audition was actually pretty great too and that noise analysis & phase reversal cleaning function was a lifesaver back when i worked in radio with 30 min deadlines.
I may end up buying elements but I worried that I'll miss a lot from having owned the full version back in PC land.
I was going as far as to get a crack of wavelab 7 mac (I know, I know - fuck off, it's just to demo it as steinberg in their infinite wisdom doesn't let you demo anything without a shitty dongle) but there isn't even a working crack out there.
Dave, do you know of any side by side function comparisons of elements to full?

I've got both WL7 and WL7 LE
the spectrum editor is not in LE
There is a feature comparisson chart on steinberg.net
Interesting stuff, but it's not something i'd really need and would just sit there taking up more 'learn me' space I no longer have
I also noticed a lot of background hum in that Wavelab video ![]()
LE is good on laptops as you don't need the Elicenser
I use the Full version on my main DAW, since it caters my outboard chain with external FX
