Chord/Melody Question - Theory

I'm working on this little melody and I have a quick question. I put the chord progression down and then over a top if I have the melody playing. At the ends of the phrases I play something a little different than the chords. Would this be considered "out of key" or to you, does it still sound harmonically balanced?

Re: Chord/Melody Question - Theory

Dare I humiliate myself? What the hell....

Yes it works. I'd use different notes but the 6 note 'jump' works to my pathetic ears overall. Sounds a little jerky/rushed the way it's played though rather than just a 'smooth' transition from one melody line to the next.

FWIW YMMV ETC....

Well if your ears are pathetic so are mine lol, I made it.. hahahahahah!! but my concern was the ends of the phrases where the trance synth goes down while the chords go up. I wasn't sure if it still maintained its proper place. But when I was making it, they were the only notes that would "go down" and still imo sound like they fit with the rest. Thanks for your feedback.

What about you Eddie, Looney, Sean? What do you think?

Also, wth is FWIW YMMV ETC......

FWIW + For what it's Worth

YMVV + Your Mileage may Vary

It sounds too mainstream. Needs to be more underground

all 12 chromatic notes can be used in a way that doesn't sound weird in a single key. Like stuff that you would hear in a pop track.

This is why i really always suggest people don't learn theory unless they really learn it. Because as this thread shows, it makes you think there are rules and makes you think inside the box.

yeah we need to shift the paradigm, leverage synergy etc

Just a matter of taste... if it sounds good, do it.

sounds fine for me but this is utter cheesy. When you don't know the theory just use your ears, theory might fall after all specially if you are using a pitched sound.

I wish someone gave me this advice earlier. Learning music theory screwed me over. I only started writing good stuff once I stopped thinking about music theory all together.
