Life Isn't Fair

FUCK
I Was attending at a DJ contest last night.
I Opened up the night with a great set planned, unfortunatlly I only got the chance to play 5 tracks.

1. PvD - For An Angel 2002 [Hell Side Mighty Dub]
2. Jam X And De Leon - Csn You Dig It [Woody Van Eyden Remix]
3. Darren Tate Vs. Mike Koglin - Now Is The Time
4. Ferry Corsten - Punk [Cosmic Gate Remix]
5. Megara Vs. DJ Lee - Full Intention

this is what I got to play due to lack of time, I had Expandr lined up when the manager broke my set and put on the next DJ.
Well anyway, the next 2 sucked, but the last one started playing Dee Dee and Kim Wilde And Scooter, then he played Twisted and stopped the damn track in the middle by mistake and started it again, all with doubles and shitty mixing.
And what do you know, he won.
Fucking Israel scene!

im sorry to hear that man

Posted by Scorchio on Aug-31-2002 08:11:

This is just so fucking unfair.
i Hate the israel scene.

Hi man,

Sorry to hear this man That ain't fair at all!

Take care,
Blighty

Shit I was suspecting that would happen!!!!!!!!
There's a taste of the motherfucking LAME Israeli scene!!!!!

Posted by Fresh on Aug-31-2002 13:00:

I guess Israel chooses cheese over quality

Posted by djxtension on Aug-31-2002 16:57:

Who the f*ck do those people think they are? Cheese over quality?

I think they should be shot immediately!

And man, I feel sorry for you. That has got to be the worst thing there is to dj-ing. Hearing someone play commercial shit (and playing it badly) and seeing him win...

Yeah, shoot the bastard!

(Please note that this post is not ment to make people violent...)

Posted by Scorchio on Aug-31-2002 20:20:

Israel doesnt choose cheese over quality,
Israels teen club scene chooses cheese over quality
and that just sucks.

Posted by Vizay on Aug-31-2002 20:32:

shit that's just plain mean by the judges :/

btw wich remix of expander did you have ready to drop when he broke the set?

Posted by Greedy on Aug-31-2002 20:49:

dude,
You got beat by someone that dropped SCOOTER???????

Posted by oDrori on Aug-31-2002 21:17:

Hey hey, let's not go there,

Scooter - Ramp (Club mix)
is a solid track to say the least.
However, when you play Kim Wilde - You Are Loved TWICE and also cause a track to restart plus overplayed stuff like Horizon (Peter Luts mix) and Dee Dee- Forever plus win with it, I get pissed.

I will track him down and *do away* with him. Just send me a PM.

You think thats unfair?

Man I got a call a few weeks ago to play dance music, at a party, where the crowd were brainwashed RnB & Hip heads. Last night as soon as I played the third track (Tocas Miracle), the crowd totally walked out, and the equipment speakers, went fuzzed. To get the crowd back, they got the RnB dj.

I even dragged my equipment there, as they told me on the phone and they even had their own equipment, but advised me to use my own!

Now thats unfair.

No you played Tocas Miracle. What the hell were you thinking? . . .especially the fact that you knew the crowd was RnB influenced. I wouldve walked out too.

hey there. scorchio, i'm very sorry about that contest. i think that since it was such a shitty event there is no need to feel sorry about it. only feel sorry about them. don't forget you wen't down fighting (or at least tried to). as for you xavier, you were also a victim of cheese & bad music... but as busy child said, it was kinda foolish to put on toca's miracle.

TOCA ME!!

That really, really sucks. Where I am, the cheese is what makes the ladies scream, so I started out mixing in a little fragma or whoever to get people to listen, then I'd hold 'em down with the more progressive sound... QUALITY!
Perhaps for the next comp. mix in a little of the not-so-cheesy cheese and then hit hard with the other quality tunes. At least it would make you stand out AND have good tunes as well.

You guys are silly..

"Yeah, this DJ I saw played crap trance music.. Why couldn't he play _______ (fill in some typical PVD or Armin tune) like me? And to think, he won.." Do you consider your fact that to someone in the crowd who doesn't know trance, the set he played was more entertaining and interesting than yours?

.. And to think, one of you said "cheese making ladies scream.." .. You've obviously never seen Sasha or John Digweed play live in a fully packed club. There are girls trying to climb INTO the DJ booth through the glass barrier.

Regarding the first post of this thread, if I was there on the same night, and had 5 songs of my choice to play, I would probably win the competition, because programming is MUCH more important than your mixing. Here's an idea - play something that makes every person in the club shake their ass, and you will win by default.

NEVER assume that people want to hear their top 5 favorite hits in one set. If you do, you're an inferior DJ - you're behind the general population, who already knows all your tunes, not ahead of them.. Good DJs are obligated to play stuff that no one knows *YET*, but will blow up in a month or two. Thus, the whole idea of promos, white-labels and etc.

Do you know that Sasha used to hammer Iio - Rapture when it was labelled "Unknown - Rapture"? That is the main reason why bedroom DJs who don't try hard enough to impress the crowd will never be in the same league as Tiesto, Armin, Sasha, or John Digweed. Try being original, and you won't believe how much better your music will sound.

/Rant off.. Think about what I said, and try to plan your set a bit better next time.

Cheers,
Nennon

Btw, to the idiot who played Toca's Miracle, I woulda smacked you in the head if I was there.

The cheesiest club in Washington DC stopped playing that song in mid-2001. What year are you living in?

Talking

Posted by Scorchio on Sep-01-2002 08:04:

The Expander remix was meant to be the Flutlict Remix for who ever asked.

Nennon:

Believe me I tried to be original, no one knows the Darren Tate track, nor the new For An Angel and I bet my whole DJ equipment that no one knew the Woody Van Eyden Remix for Can You Dig It?.
Everyone was dancing, and the floor was packed, I played a great set and mixed great to.
I Fucking blame the 99FM radio station, they keep playing Lasgo and Dee Dee and Kim Wilde all day long, so thats what people know, so when the last DJ started playing all those cheesy tracks in one set, it gave him the win.
The judges were also DJs who plays in that club and they too dont know the tracks I played, I assure you, they keep playing exactly the same cheese he played, so if the crowd knows it, and they know it, I think I had no chance from the beggining.
Like I said, Israel teen ckub scene sucks!

Posted by nennon on Sep-01-2002 18:11:

I'm a firm believer that if you blame your local scene for not liking "your music", you're a crappy DJ to begin with.

You know, to me, a lot of trance is crap. Meaning if I was there when you played YOUR set, I would probably be rolling my eyes. I play progressive and breakbeats, so YOUR scene is not MY scene.

All I can say is, play better sets with tunes that no one will recognize at all. The whole "I played a new remix" thing doesn't fly with me - its still the same song, regardless of who remixed it. The only exceptions are songs like Sylver - Turn the Tide, where every remix sounds different.. compare the original to the Rui Da Silva mix - its a true RE-mix.

Play more interesting sets, that's all I can say.
