How to properly hook up hardware synth to prevent feedback?

I'm getting analog feedback problems when I hook up both a midi cable to my hardware synth (nord lead 2x btw) and when I route the audio out to my soundcard. I know this feedback is the result of creating a loop going from my synth to my computer (through usb) and then through my soundcard back through my synth. Are you just supposed to use an amp to make it louder than the background noise or do you guys do something else. Thanks.

sound card setting or you have a midi loop going. Disable mini in on your system or midi out on the synth. IF you still get a loop, you are sending that audio to some buss which is then sent back to your input. How bad does it distort ? like how loud does it get. If it goes real quick into the red, its an audio issue, if it just sounds like a clutter of notes, midi.

there is no distortion. there is audible increase in background white noise once i create the loop.

luckily it looks like my soundcard has a grounding screw. i'm just going to try that out first and see if that works.

yeah ground your machine better.

what interface?
Does this happen outside of your DAW.
Groudning issues will give you electronic hums , not this.

I have the Steinberg UR28M. I've never used a hardware synth before, so there's a 99% chance I'm messing something up. I'll post an update in a couple days with whether or not I can fix the issue.

does it feedback outside of your daw. It isn't a grounding issue. Either you are experiencing audio feedback or midi loop. The fact that it is white noise , which is probably digital distortion not white noise.

disconnect the midi
play the onboard demo. Does it still do it ?
then it is audio and not midi issue
IF no, then it is a midi issue.

if it does this outside of your daw, try it into your headphones only placed into your synth directly. Now play the demo. If it sounds fine in yoru headphones, the synth is fine, and it does it still , it is your audio device and the setting.

It isn't rocket science. Reduce the synth to the most basic setting and take it from there.

When I disconnect the midi everything works perfectly fine. There is a trigger button on the Nord and I can use that to test if the synth is working properly. When the midi is connected, then there is an audible increase in background noise which can only be overcome by using the mic amplifier on my soundcard. The sound/synth, again though, works perfectly fine. Do you have to use the amps yourself to record? Or is there so little background noise that you can just use line in?

Huh, now it works perfectly fine. Weird. I must not have had it connected correctly at first or something. Thanks for the help.

it is at line level so most likely +6 dBu. Loud enough without a preamp

Your synth is probably a demo. Just purchase the full version and the white noise will go away.
