Lasik Eye Surgery // PRK

Anyone ever have either of these corrective eye surgeries done? I'm really thinking about doing it. My vision has leveled off over the past 4-6 years. I know the big differences between Lasik and PRK, just wondering folks' experience. the AF will pay for me to do it (I just have to use my own Vacation Time)...really thinking about getting it done.

Do it. Best thing I've ever had done was get LASIK surgery. It's actually really cool, you pick out a cool CD (I chose Allman Brothers - Eat a Peach) and they put some numbing eye drops in your eyes. When it's time for surgery you just stare at a bright light while they peel the cornea and lens back and shoot a red laser into your pupil. They say to not look away from the light, but once they peel the flap back, all you can see are shadows and shapes anyway so the light encompasses your entire vision. They put the flap back on and you keep your eyes closed for a little while. After about an hour I was reading street signs. Fucked up but totally awesome and worth it.

That's what a friend of mine says, he loves telling the story. As he walked out, he threw his old glasses in this enormous glass tube filled with other people's glasses who got the surgery before him. It was very satisfying.

Looks like it's worth it.

Doesn't your night vision get kind of blurry, though?

"Applied" for a LASIK surgery yesterday, next week I'll found out if the health plan covers it (my myopia is quite light).

i have had friends that did it and were very happy with the results.
the only thing that they noticed was a "starry-ness" with lights,
like when you look through a screened window at a streetlight at night.
small price to pay for having great vision, imo.

Doesn't it become difficult to drive at night?

i don't know first-hand,
only what i have heard friends who have had it done say about it.
all of them said that they were very happy with the results.

Not sure if it can be done for me, firstly with astigmatism and secondly because i've had 3 operations on the muscles in my right eye previously and may need more as time goes by. Would love to have good vision though, without my glasses, esp in bad weather.

Astigmatism shouldn't be a problem, otherwise my fiancée wouldn't be on the queue to get one with me. As for the previous operations... that may be a bit of a problem.

What's wrong with your eyes anyhow?

I did it, also had astigmatisms in both eyes corrected. I'm so happy I did. I say go for it!

My friend just got PRK.
It's a more painful and longer recovery, but the results last longer than lasik.

Happy with my lasik, esp since I had like -8 for prescription for lenses. First week after surgery is a bit of pain, and you basically carry eye drops with you at all times, but I think improvement in my quality of life is worth it. (esp if you get it for free!)

Huh? I don't experience any of this?

If there is anything I can advise, it's to NOT get the cheap assed 500 dollar procedures because they WILL fuck up your eyes. Get a reputable surgeon and don't cheap out on the price when it comes to your eyes.

Nope. Not at all. It's weird, contacts aren't always perfect, but when you get LASIK, your vision is definitely perfect. The day after my surgery I went back to the doctor and my vision was 20/20.

One muscle is weaker than the other so it leaves my eye to the side, they tighten the muscles up on one side to pull it in but each time you lose so much of the muscle. First op lasted 20 years and my last one was 6 yrs ago.

got my lasik done 2006, recovery was a bitch i kept tearing then after a day it was all gone and hello to perfect vision

A friend of mine had it done. Appointments are typically done on fridays, that way you can return to work/school/jerking off the following monday. As far as I know, your vision will be sketchy after the procedure, but will take i think a couple weeks for everything to go back to norm and eventually back to having 20/20 vision (or close to).

I wouldnt recommend doing it yet, your still young and your vision is still going to get fucked further after you get it done. I'd wait another 5 years, get it in your mid thirties when the prices will be even better, but more importantly when the practice becomes a guarantee (some people have had some screw ups). But more importantly when your vision has COMPLETELY settled.

In my opinion, I wouldnt go with an inexpensive solution. You get what you pay for and I'm pretty sure you value your vision more than just a measly 500 bucks per eye.

Wrong. My vision was perfect the following day. Don't rub your eyes though, that's about it.

Wrong. What are you just assuming shit and thinking its fact? Your vision wont change after age 21, which is why that's the minimum age. LASIK doesn't wear off unless you get a cheap procedure.

A doctor examines your eyes and your vision to determine if your eyes have stabilized and then they prepare you for surgery. If you have anything which could complicate LASIK surgery, they don't do it. For instance, if your eyes have not finished developing (which is rare, since your eyes are done developing by 21 in almost every case) they won't do surgery on you.

If you are 21 years old, and you have a certain level of nearsightedness (like a contact prescription) there is no way that your vision will get any worse than another 0.5 by the time you're 26-27. If you get corrective eye surgery, and the doctors have determined your eyes are appropriate candidates for LASIK, your vision won't start getting worse (and then again, it's usually only people who are trying to read, not people trying to see far away) until you're an old ass man. My dad got LASIK over a decade ago and his sight is perfect except for when he's reading. Shut the fuck up when you don't know what you're talking about you god damned moron.

Nope, it's when you were giving absolutely false information as if it was fact, and saying that getting LASIK at 21 (which is when I got it) is fucking stupid, which in fact, isn't, considering I have perfect vision now and any worsening of my sight is covered by the initial payment of the procedure.

Just saying. Do your research before you speak non-facts.
