Unhappy SL-1200 Problem!!

Please someone help me!

My turntable is playing only the left channel...if I spit at my ortofon's contact it gets better(I hear both sides)but the high frequencies don't show up (the sound has only the mid and low freq)....

What can I do to solve this prob??

Well, there probably is a problem with your element.

Try cleaning the contacts, or tighten them up a little. That should work.

You could also check if the little wires connected to the element are all in position.

Good luck...

try cleaning the contacts with the eraser of a pencil (both on the tonearm and the cart)

3 more possibilities.

I found that alcohol works the best on the contacts. Plus When i spin at a nite club in town, we have a bottel of rubbing alc to wipe down the contacts with.

Second. Dust on the stylus tip. Somepeople never realize how cluttered that can get.

Third.....if harsh on the stylus tip.....you could have bent it so only parts of the frequenices go through. Check that and replace if needed.

If you know of anyone also has tables.... take your carts to their crib and play around. If they work fine your dex may need a small tune up. Could have bad wires.

Do you have 2 turntables. If so, swap the carts over to the other deck. If the problem is coming from the other deck, then you know the cause is in the cart. If it comes from the same deck, then it is either in the deck or in the mixer. Swap the deck around and see if the problem is in the same channel. If it is, then the prob's with your mixer, if it changed, then there's probably something wrong witht he wiring in your tt. Chances are, one of them is loose.

But try the other suggestions too
