FAO: People trying to add me on Facebook

I've had a few people from TA try and add me on Facebook recently, people who I get along with fine on here. Don't take it personally but I'm not accepting any friend requests from people I only know through TA. Unless I've actually met you or had a night out with you, I'm not going to add you.

You were the first person from TA, although I've had people from other forums try it as well. I know Tony, Nick and now Jay have also tried adding me on Facebook, and I can't be bothered politely declining everyone so I thought I'd just put a general message out there.

I've slowly started deleting TAs from my FB, for pretty much the same reason. I've declined lots of invites too...and definitely don't mean any offense by it, but I do prefer to keep my FB reserved for people I know IRL.

I tend to be quite generous regarding whom I add on Facebook. I believe there's always the opportunity to learn more about someone else and have a richer experience on there. Besides, it's much more interesting to talk to someone whose face you can see, and whose name you know, than it is to react to something someone behind an avatar and a fake name wrote. As for privacy, I tend to refuse randoms and people I find particularly creepy, because I'm more concerned about people knowing where I am - when they pose a threat - than about what I do.

If I wanted to talk just to the people I know, I'd hang out with them.

I've criticised an awful lot of bullshit on this website. You're going to have to be more specific about the relevance of any of it to this thread.

Well, this thread is the kind of pointless bullshit you would generally criticize.

"Hey, look at me, I think I'm important enough and apparently receiving enough Facebook friend requests from a bunch of forum people that I feel it relevant to explain to all of you via a new thread on said forum how you aren't good enough to be on my Facebook friend list because I don't know you in person."

It's kind of a self-congratulatory thing. Facebook isn't a big deal, and I'm sure the hordes of people who you are "politely declining" aren't butthurt by it.

The people who've tried adding me on there are people I've spoken to for years on here, have often sorted me out with rare music I'm looking for and helped me out in other ways. These are all people I like and respect and I feel bad about declining, even if they aren't bothered by it. I'd rather just put it out there now in public. If you want to interpret that as pointless bullshit or self-congratulatory then it's your call.

Besides, the reasoning has nothing to do with people not being "good enough" and everything to do with maintaining at least a modicum of online security. I've seen the shitstorms that ensue when personal lives mix with TA.

this thread caused me to take paxil.
