ever bought something really expensive than regretted it?

paid a little over 600 dollars for a novation 49 sl mkii, and found out that auto map fails in fl studio, i mean its still useable, but its honestly quicker to just use my mouse (which i already have to do to link the controls) just wasnt worth the hype, on the plus side i do like the keyboard, but if i paid a little bit extra i could of got a mopho or something and just used that as a midi.

so what is something that you bought, being impulsive or whatever and just regretted it later?

Novation actually has some software on their site to allow editing of the onboard SLMK2 templates. Allowing one to ditch Autocrap entirely. It's called the beta "SLMK2 Editor"

I also bought an SL49 mk2. Lol, what a piece of shit. Luckily the shop took it back 3 days later and I got an Oxygen instead for basic plnking duties.

The other thing I regretted was a Virus Ti, mainly as I hadn't done my research thoroughly enough and discovered the VST part of it didn't work as I expected/wanted it to do.

Alan Marcero has sensed a disturbance in the farce.

Novation ReMote SL. I tried to tell you, but you didn't listen, did ya?

2 worst things i ever bought...

1. Focusrites "liquid mix" back in the day... what an utter piece of SHIT that dsp was, now sitting in a box, whoever wants it can take it.

2. and EMS Synthi-A for 20k, in less than desireable condition... lasted about 5 days before the DC brick blew the fuck out... going to redeem it by sending it to a specialist to get fixed, i hope.

I was kind of pissed because I bought a pad controller. Needed the for monitors, but shiiiiet it had a nice pricetag on it. I didn't use it for a year then. Now I like it more and more, it's a fine piece of kit..

Posted by DjWoody on Mar-06-2012 00:32:

Oh, I got quite a few things collecting dust.

1.- TRAKTOR SCRATCH PRO - Never used it live at a party and rarely use it in my studio. Why? Because everywhere I play at has a Serato mixer. lol

2.- M-AUDIO FIREWIRE 410 - All my shit is USB, so no need for that. I didn't know what I was doing back then. One day I just assumed that I needed one and bought it.

3.- FINAL SCRATCH - POS didn't work. It sounded like crap. I sold it on eBay for $250. Poor guy who bought it.

4.- CUBASE 4 - It's one of those thing that just because so and so was using it, I wanted it! lol Fuck, I never used it because when it came out, it wasn't compatible with my OsX and fucken Steinberg took forever to fix the problem. Instead, I ended up sticking to Ableton Live and gave Cubase 4 to my friend.

5.- REASON - Again, back in the days I didn't know shit, and it was an impulse buy. IT'S OLD! REALLY OLD! Maybe I should upgrade it and see if I like it this time.

6.- PREDATOR - When I bought it, it asked me if I wanted a dongle or a 2 computer license. Stupid me said dongle. LOL I rarely use it on my Mac Pro cuz now I mostly work off my laptop and I hate carring that thing. lol I'm gonna email Rob and see if he'll change my SN and allow me to install it on my laptop without the dongle. lol

7.- AKAI MPD 24 - I never use it.

8.- BEHRINGER BCF 2000 - This one is actually pretty sweet, but I need to spend more time with it and learn it. What I don't like is that the automation done with the BCF is written as a bunch of little dots. It's not perfectly linear or smooth lines, so it makes it a pain in the ass to try to fix little mistakes without having to rewrite that part. Again, it's probably just me that needs to spend more time to learn it.

I'm sure I got more, but this is just a small list.

Thats quiet the list you got there woody

An Avid/Digidesign Protools Mix rig with 4 DSP cards at 8000$ each and the plugins that came with it. Total cost something in the lines of 70 000$. Then they announced HD and the forced move to it if you want OS X. It was either get rid of that rig ASAP or shell out an extra 25 000 again. Never again.

This one.i sold it about 18 months ago and it plummeted in value just before. the plugins load very slow and provIde no advantage on cpu since they're not cpu intensive at all and none of my projects are either. The interface is fun but the plugins did not have any value for my tracks.

Second would be the novation launchpad which only works 100% in ableton live and is just lying around unused. Maybe I should try and plug it in again to see if that's still the case. I sure hope not.

- Novation Remote SL
- AKAI MPD18 (bought it to mirror GA1 in Cubase, but too much hassle with kit mapping)
- AKAI S5000, wanted USB sampler, but AKAIsys never worked
- Virus Ti, always arp problems in Cubase.

XP80 is a fantastic machine. I still miss my old 1080 and the addition of a nice 76 note keyboard has got me scouring ebay

Several years back I threw a couple grand at a jp8000, jx3p and a cs1x hoping to take advantage of their individual sounds but they've just sat in the corner of my studio gathering dust

Yes, that reminds me of another regretful purchase:

- Cubase, always arp problems with my Virus TI.

OK, somewhat joking. Yeah, the arp sync problems were a big problem for a long time (still are somewhat), but I have never experienced them as bad with Sonar, PT, Studio One, or Live as I did with Cubase - the arp was unusable with Cubase 4 for me. Maybe Germans hate each other?

Pioneer DJM500.

Thankfully not my money but I had to go buy it for a mate (more money than sense) who wanted one and it wasn't even out yet. I pulled in every favor form people I knew in the industry a managed to find the only one in the UK (it was 6 months before official release). He spent 2500 and within 3 months the headphone pot was crackling. Piece of shit, and pioneer haven't got any better since then.
